It takes a lot of guts to tell a bunch of scientists & business people that LOVE will save the world. After first having made fun of your vanity as an actor. But @iamsrk was being utterly serious. And words like his are more necessary than ever. “Positive log zinda hai.” – at Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Lots of reasons --
Literary history -- major text
History of Hinduism -- tells us about changing ideas / values at date of composition (date differs, depending on version)
Social history -- insights on Hindu views of the Other
Needed background for inscriptions, etc.

This was the boldest scene in the history of Indian cinema. Madhuri Dixit while playing Sita on-stage refuses to do 'Agni Pareksha' & asks Ram to jump in the fire along with her
Back in the day, the cast of the film had a case filed against them. This is peak cinema

This guy is an absolute legend!
THIS IS WHAT SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER LOOKS LIKE
A man of extraordinary courage, conviction, and integrity.
Fearless, unapologetic, and utterly unwilling to bow to power or compromise his principles.
He has the backbone to say what others wouldn’t dare whisper, let alone declare publicly.

Dr. Ambedkar rejected the idea of portraying Rama as Maryada Purushottam on moral grounds, citing five controversial incidents in the Ramayana:
1. The killing of Vali – Rama killed Vali by attacking him from behind while he was fighting Sugriva.
2. Sita’s Agni Pariksha – Rama subjected Sita to a trial by fire to prove her purity.
3. Abandoning pregnant Sita – Rama sent his pregnant wife into exile in the forest.
4. Sita’s final ordeal – Sita ultimately returned to the earth rather than continue living under such humiliation.
5. The killing of Shambuka – Rama killed Shambuka for performing penance, according to the Uttara Kanda.
From the standpoint of morality and justice, Rama cannot be regarded as a God or an ideal man.

I just heard someone use the term "competence kink" when referring to why women are swooning over Jon Ossoff and Abdul El-Sayed. I hsve to say that's totally it. We're so damn sick of little boys who think dominating a woman makes you a man. It doesn't. It just makes you an asshołe.

“Rahul and Priyanka, rushed to my arms in tears. When they had been abruptly picked up from school by black-uniformed commandos, they sensed a catastrophe. Once home, they saw some of the staff sobbing.
They asked question after question. “Where’s Mama?” “Why have we been brought home?” “Where’s Papa?” “What’s happened?” “Where’s Dadi?” “You aren’t telling us the truth!”
I wanted to sit with them and hug them, to break the news to them gently, but I was unable to – I had to go back; Rajiv was coming to the hospital.”
For the first time, @SoniaGandhi ji opens her heart to recount the spine-chilling moments of Indira ji’s assassination - not merely the brutal violence against India’s Prime Minister, but the shattering loss of a mother, the pillar of the family, and a doting grandmother.

This is why Jon Ossoff won in a landslide in Georgia. He took the gloves off and didn’t pussyfoot around the truth.
Putting aside the fact I wrote about what he said here when many were silent, he’s making the case for why Democrats MUST now hold these monsters accountable.
This isn’t about retribution, it’s about ensuring what Trump and his puppet masters have done NEVER happens again THAT is what the American people voted for.
Of course legislation is a priority it was a priority they didn’t address in 2024, when they failed hard pressed American families who were screaming for help, while they were chasing upper middle class voters who were NEVER going to vote for them.
Then, when they were punished for it at the ballot box, they blamed the American people for rejecting them, and then stayed silent for almost a year while Trump dismantled democracy and tore down the government.
If Democratic leadership can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, then step the fuck aside and let someone who can deliver justice to the American people get the job done. I’d go even further and suggest they step down anyway, because they don’t have the integrity or the trust required for this mission critical moment.
This is NOT the time for more of the same old same old, and that’s what this current leadership represents I’m afraid. It’s why they went into this election with popularity ratings underwater.
This landslide was NOT about a ringing endorsement of the Democratic Party, it was a repudiation of a broken political system.
It’s time for a PEOPLE FIRST REVOLUTION. This is a once in a generation opportunity to deliver transformative change. GET IT DONE.
Oh and before I finish, why does Hakeem Jeffries put full stops in the most odd places in his totally irritating sentences? An orator he is not I’m afraid, yet in a comedic twist of irony, he’s about to become Speaker of the House. Democrats can and MUST do better.
They need to listen and READ THE ROOM, otherwise 2028 will be a repeat of 2024. It’s hard to hear I know, but sometimes the truth hurts and someone has to say it.

Holding Indira ji’s bullet-ridden body on that desperate rush to the hospital. Pleading with Rajiv ji in tears; begging him not to take the mantle, terrified of the very fate that tore him away just seven years later.
Very few families in modern history have given as much of their personal blood, sorrow, and soul to a country as the Gandhi family.
Through immense heartbreak, assassinations, and solitary grief, Sonia Gandhi ji chose dignity over bitterness, service over self, and stood as an anchor for India when everything shattered around her.
Belonging isn’t merely a memoir; it is an intimate testament to unbearable sacrifice, quiet steel, and an enduring devotion to the nation. A legacy of supreme patriotism that history will hold in everlasting awe. 🇮🇳
For years I kept these memories to myself. Some were too painful to speak of, others too precious. In Belonging, I have finally written them down.

it sucks that we have such nationalists talking about our ancient myths with utter disregard for the truth, which is much more cooler and deals with historical migration patterns, common ancestries, and the universality of stories
