Today we're excited to announce Plonky2, our groundbreaking proof system and a major milestone for zero-knowledge cryptography and Ethereum scaling ππ«blog.polygon.technology/intrβ¦
Thank you to the ZK and crypto communities for your support.
It was amazing to see the pioneers of ZK scaling, the inventors of STARKs and PLONK (the foundation of our work, including Plonky2), speak out to uphold the open source ethos.
Crypto runs on the open source ethos. When projects donβt follow it, the ecosystem suffers.
We were disappointed to see that @zksync copied our code without attribution and made misleading claims about the original work, so we wrote this post.

Itβs crucial that we, as a crypto community, call out failures to embody the values that make this space great.
We have to continue to incentivize the collaborative spirit of open-source development. If we fail to do so, weβll be no better than the Web2 monopolies.

This is well known but the analogue of the FFT for multilinear polynomials is the Walsh-Hadamard transform, and it is surprisingly simple.

Polygon Labs folks are absolute beast in execution.
- Launched as a sidechain, hustled their way to the top.
- Started the ecosystem LM campaign with Aave.
- Built a $$ treasury
- Leveraged it to do strategic acquisitions and pivot (90% of which fail)
- 18 months, launch a working zkEVM, with best UX
- Does a mega pivot to all things zk.
- Propose to migrate the most adopted scaling solution (in terms of DApps and integrations) to zk. An engineering feat
- moving from a business first to tech first project (all the chad zk hires)
All crypto twitter influencers has got to talk about it definitions. Watch and learn.
We need better critics before the next cycle, and flush out the old ones.

There are questions about how we are going to accomplish what we have proposed in the blog. As VP of Community & Governance at Polygon Labs, as well as the self-appointed hot dog eating champion of Polygon Labs (no contest yet, but I can eat up to 3), I want to provide clarity.
1/ Today a proposal was published to upgrade Polygon PoS to a zkEVM validium, a first-of-its-kind, decentralized ZK Layer 2.
As a zkEVM validium, Polygon PoS would inherit Ethereum's unmatched security, while preserving low fees & high scalability.

I believe @0xPolygon did an really interesting thing by acquiring Hermez, Mir (zero), Miden and making them collaborators instead of competitors.
This was a huge win for Polygon and I believe for these teams too. Interested to see if others will follow the same approach.

1/ Our vision for Polygon is simple: to build the Value Layer of the Internet.
The Internet allows anyone to create and exchange information. The Value Layer allows anyone to create, exchange, and program value.
Enter Polygon 2.0: a blueprint to build the ultimate Value Layer.

In April, the daily avg gas on Polygon #zkEVM was 7X cheaper than Ethereum Mainnet, even during periods of peak network activity.

I'm honoured to have been involved with @0xPolygon zkEVM audit. They're one of the best protocols to work with in the space and I have a lot of respect for the team's professionalism.
Every component of Polygon zkEVM (including the prover) has been auditedβand those audit reports are available on GitHub.
How else could you DYOR?

Really exciting to see how a TX from the @0xPolygon #zkEVM has been sequenced in ~5 min and proved in less than 20 min! π Sequencing and verification time is adjusted to the network load, I'm sure we'll soon see these numbers go down π zkEVMProver rocks! zkevm.polygonscan.com/tx/0x7β¦

Big congrats to @0xPolygonLabs (@0xPolygon) for launching Polygon zkEVM. Here are few things that you may assume about zkRollups but you will find here different and should be aware of: π§΅π
