🔵The 10-year Long Residence route is not a loophole or an easy shortcut to settlement. It requires a decade of continuous lawful residence, strict compliance with immigration rules, repeated visa applications and substantial financial commitments. All applicants have paid IHS fees, immigration fees, supported themselves entirely and contributed through employment and taxation. Removing this pathway without protecting those who have already spent years qualifying risks punishing people for following the very immigration system the UK established. We believe the government should recognise the difference between changing policy for future arrivals and disrupting the lives of those already on the journey. Transitional protection is a matter of fairness. @ukhomeoffice @ukhomeoffice @ShabanaMahmood #LongResidence #EarnedSettlement #TransitionalProtection #ILR

The 10-year Long Residence route recognises genuine, long-term commitment to the UK. Many of us have spent almost a decade here, integrated into British society, gained British qualifications, developed careers and contributed through employment and taxation. We have paid international tuition fees, supported ourselves financially and contributed to the economy without claiming benefits or relying on public funds. We have invested enormously in this country. We urge the Home Office and all those responsible for shaping these reforms to reconsider the proposed changes and introduce meaningful transitional protections. Our years of lawful residence, contribution and commitment deserve recognition, not disregard. #LongResidence #EarnedSettlement #ProtectLongResidence #ILR #FairnessForMigrants #LongResidence #EarnedSettlement #LongResidence #10YearLongResidence #EarnedSettlement #Settlement #ILR #IndefiniteLeaveToRemain #ProtectLongResidence #TransitionalArrangements #FairSettlement #FairnessForMigrants #ImmigrationReform #UKImmigration #MigrantRights #IntegrationMatters #RecogniseOurContribution #OurLivesAreHere #BritishSociety #LongResidenceCohort #ProtectOurFuture #HomeOffice @ukhomeoffice @ShabanaMahmood @JoWhiteSays @AnnelieseDodds

The 10-year Long Residence route has allowed people to build genuine, lasting lives in the UK through years of lawful residence. Many of which arrived young, spent our formative years here, gained British qualifications, developed professional careers, paid substantial taxes and became active members of our communities. We have funded our own education, supported ourselves and, in all cases, never claimed benefits or relied on public funds. We have followed the rules, renewed our visas, paid thousands in immigration fees and built our futures around an established pathway to settlement. These are not just 10 years on paper; they are 10 years of our lives, financial investment and contribution to British society. We urge the Home Office, the Government and everyone responsible for these reforms to reconsider the impact on this cohort. At the very least, those already on the 10-year journey must receive fair transitional arrangements. A system that rewards integration should not disregard people who have spent almost a decade demonstrating it. We are asking for fairness, consistency and recognition of legitimate expectations, not special treatment. #LongResidence #10YearRoute #EarnedSettlement #ProtectLongResidence #TransitionalArrangements #ILR #FairnessForMigrants #IntegrationMatters #HomeOffice #RecogniseOurContribution @JoWhiteSays @ukhomeoffice @CommonsHomeAffs @ShabanaMahmood

The 10-year Long Residence cohort is being pushed aside after dedicating years of our lives to this country. We are arguably one of the most contributing cohorts: we came here young, grew up here, studied, worked, paid taxes and built our lives in the UK. Many of us have spent over a decade putting down roots, with no reliance on public funds or social housing. To now face the possibility of having the very route we relied upon fundamentally changed, without fair transitional protections, is deeply unfair. We did everything the system asked of us, followed the rules and built our futures around them. We are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for fairness, recognition and protection for those already on the 10-year journey. Our years of contribution should count, not be discarded. #LongResidence #EarnedSettlement @ukhomeoffice @ShabanaMahmood @AnnelieseDodds

The 10-year Long Residence cohort is arguably among the most integrated immigrant groups in the UK. We have spent nearly a decade here, grown up in British society, achieved some of the highest levels of English proficiency and gained British qualifications. We have studied, worked, paid taxes, contributed to our communities and invested years of our lives building a future here. In terms of time spent in the UK, integration and accumulated contribution, our cohort has given enormously to this country. Yet we are now facing the prospect of having the settlement pathway we relied upon fundamentally changed, with no meaningful protection for those already on it. How can a system that claims to reward integration disregard a cohort that has demonstrated it through almost a decade of living, studying and contributing in the UK? We are not asking for preferential treatment. We are asking for our time, commitment and contribution to be recognised. Do not punish those who have already spent nearly a decade building their lives in Britain. Protect the Long Residence cohort. #LongResidence #EarnedSettlement #LongResidence #10YearLongResidence #EarnedSettlement #Settlement #ILR #IndefiniteLeaveToRemain #ProtectLongResidence #TransitionalArrangements #FairSettlement #FairnessForMigrants #ImmigrationReform #UKImmigration #MigrantRights #IntegrationMatters #RecogniseOurContribution #OurLivesAreHere #BritishSociety #LongResidenceCohort #ProtectOurFuture #HomeOffice @ukhomeoffice @ShabanaMahmood @JoWhiteSays @AnnelieseDodds

Calling ten years of someone’s life ‘temporary’ — ten years of paying taxes, NI, VISA fees; ten years of friendships & family & learning to call this home — all to be taken away in the blink of an eye because you decided to remove their VISA routes — @UKLabour @ShabanaMahmood

Preposterous changes to ILR and the Long Residence route. International students contribute vitally to education, teaching, and research expertise in the UK. And how will this help the UK's crumbling universities?
10 Year long residence ILR is a popular alternative pathway where people combine time among routes eg as a student + work routes - this is now to be scrapped so many will have to wait a lot longer now to apply
