Worked out a cover in the style of the old rulebooks I fell in love with, changed up a lot of wording to fall in line with copyright stuff.
First version of this is now written and about to be printed up and more thoroughly playtested.
Getting to play my own game for the first time as a player tonight! Feels like a milestone as a game designer.
Friends, this is the final push! We're in the last 40 hours of the Kickstarter campaign for Chromatic Shadows Core Rules! Now's the time to jump on this exciting homegrown, handmade, "occult cyberpunk" project. We funded in 24 hours and unlocked every stretch goal. Get the Beta PDF right away and get playing! Chromatic Shadows LIVES!!! (Link below! 🔗👇)
Procedural solo cyberpunk you say??
A look at the game loop for the solo toolkit I’m making for Cyberpunk TTRPG.
I’ve found that established constraints and a repeatable flow to each session is key to satisfying solo gaming.
Where indicated, a section of the booklet contains its own tables to generate gigs, cast members, the job action itself, and more.
Every Game Loop is about a week in game time.
01 PREVIOUSLY…start each session writing a few lines about where you are now since the last episode and what’s on your mind to accomplish this “week.”
Roll on Street News table and apply to this episode:
(Go to STREET NEWS)
02 MAKE THE CALL Hit up your Fixer, and roll COOL + Streetwise at DV 15. On a success, roll d6. 1-4: One gig offer. 5-6: Two gig offers. On a failure, no gig available this week. Play your scenes this week based on active threads. (GO TO MAKE THE CALL)
03 MAKE A CHOICE Choose a gig or pass on both and play scenes based on active threads this week.
04 LEGWORK Play two or three scenes to gather information about the gig. Ask your contacts, case the joint, buy gear, bribe people, whatever. Each legwork scene that goes your way gives you valuable info or advantages for the gig.
05 THE JOB Play it out. (GO TO THE JOB)
06 AFTERMATH Collect pay, adjust REP, Heat, Clocks, take notes.
07 DOWNTIME Pay your bills, take two Downtime actions. Advance any clocks necessary. (GO TO DOWNTIME)
08 NEXT TIME…For every Set you visited and every Cast member you dealt with this episode, write one new detail about them on your lists. Then write a few lines on this session’s consequences and what you plan to do about them.
Every third episode, if you’ve done gigs on both the previous episodes, skip the Fixer and play the whole session with the Season’s main antagonist or your most advanced Thread driving the action instead.

The filth and the fury of RTG’s “Cyberpunk 2020” filled many of my after school days as a kid and teen.
Sometimes the older me finds the genre a little tough to want to engage with, as “the future is now,” in many more depressing ways than I could’ve understood as a kid.
Even so, the retro-futuristic version of the 2020’s, along with the gritty mix of nihilism cut with a tiny glimmer of hope that raging against the corporate machine could actually make a difference still appeals on some levels.
Who has good memories of this one (or 2013)?
This looks very interesting.
Put something quick together for myself using lots of tables, “clocks,” and tightly containing a game loop into season, episode, scene hierarchy.
The idea is to use mostly recurring characters, “sets”/locations, and leave jobs and the like to tables until a “thread clock” dictates otherwise.
May give this a go this week if I can make the time to actually run a session!

Go ghosts and fairies exist? *Only* ghosts and fairies exist. Everything we see is a haunted by the virtuality of the past. Everything we think involves the constant intrusion of creatures of the world of the imagination.
Friends, Chromatic Shadows Core Rules is in the home stretch over on Kickstarter. It's a full length, D6 indie cyberpunk game, very much in the tradition of Shadowrun, World of Darkness, and Call of Cthulhu. If you like the idea of Shadowrun + cosmic horror, this might be worth a look.
There are currently FIVE active stretch goals unlocked, available to every backer. Also, you don't have to wait to play. Every backer receives immediate access to the 282 page Beta, which includes pre-generated characters and a sample adventure.
The KS campaign is running through October 31. Please check out the Kickstarter link below for more info!

TSR got REALLY weird in 1981. ❤️
That year, the company behind Dungeons & Dragons released an official Escape from New York board game based on John Carpenter’s film.
And look who was involved:
Design: Zeb Cook and Harold Johnson
Art credits include: Jeff Dee, Dave LaForce, Jim Roslof, Bill Willingham, and Erol Otus
Even better, the game featured what appear to be:
🛩️ Bill Willingham art on the instruction booklet title page
🧟 Erol Otus art of the Crazies emerging from the sewers
So yes, TSR really made a board game where players race through prison Manhattan to rescue the President and recover the tape before time runs out.
And the box proudly says:
“For 2 to 4 Adults Ages 10 and Up”
An R-rated John Carpenter movie.
Turned into a TSR board game for ages 10 and up. 😂
This is the kind of gloriously strange early 80s TSR history I live for.
Had you ever seen this one before?
5 Stretch Goals unlocked, 99 backers, 6 days to go!
There's NO BETTER TIME to back Chromatic Shadows Core Rules on Kickstarter. We've got 4 ACTIVE STRETCH GOALS on deck, that's a lot of value for 1 pledge. And we're almost to Stretch Goal #5! Let's get there!🔗👇
Had a fantastic interview with Konstantine Paradias about Chromatic Shadows (still LIVE on Kickstarter). We cover all sorts of esoteric topics like cyberpunk fiction, philosophy of game design, political theory, and magick.
