Ems Summer

A message from a fan who spent an hour angry, then felt smaller than the medal Alex Eala , I’m not proud of the first hour after the match. I sat there saying you should have closed it. I said 5-0 should have been enough. I said it like the gold was already ours and you had taken it away, just because you chose to be here instead of chasing the points that keep your ranking safe. Then I read that you said you had no regrets. It didn’t feel like an excuse. It felt like someone who had already decided what the week was worth before the last ball was even played. That shut me up faster than any result could. You walked out carrying a whole country’s expectation on top of your own. Most of us only carried our phones and the version of the match we wanted to see. Bronze, after giving up ranking points to wear the flag, is still a choice a lot of people talk about making and then quietly don’t. I’m sorry for the part of me that only knows how to love you when the scoreboard agrees. You didn’t owe us the ending we wrote in our heads. You just showed up for the one you chose. Thank you for staying with it anyway.
