16th October 1939 ‘The Battle of the River Fourth’. Witnessed by my Grandfather who had only joined the Observer Corps a week earlier. The armband he was wearing at the time is shown next to an aerial photo of the raid.

Was contacted out of the blue recently by a former Observer who had a collection of paperwork to give me. Just spent the last hour having a fascinating chat with him about his time in the ROC. He kept every document and note he was ever given!

I’m with Gavin who runs the nuclear bunker in Dundee. If Putin has a meltdown this afternoon, I’m sorted.
We’ve just had the pleasure of giving @mrmarksteel a bunker tour! Thanks for taking the time to come along and see us.

Derek Wood served in the ROC for 44 years and wrote the definitive book on their history. Copies tend to go for a premium these days. Trivia - he also helped write the screenplay for ‘Battle of Britain’ which was based on his book ‘The Narrow Margin’.

The earliest photo I have of the museum. Taken in 1960 on the day the post was handed over to the ROC by the builders. WWII telephone still in use.

Did you know that during the Cold War, Canada built an underground bunker to protect government officials in case of a nuclear attack? 🤯 The Diefenbunker was a massive command center that featured a decontamination area to ensure the safety of those seeking refuge. 😷
