Coaching gets a lot harder when the right decision for the team is the wrong decision for your own popularity.
Eventually every coach has to decide which one matters more.
And there’s no guarantee anyone will thank you for it.

Interesting observation. The Brewers (almost without exception), seemed to stay within the team colors for all their added gear.
There’s a reason it’s called a UNIFORM. In baseball, your cleats, batting gloves, sliding mitts, elbow guards, and sleeves should reflect your TEAM colors, not draw attention to yourself.
The name on the front matters more than the name on the back.
Look like a team. Play like a team. Win as a team.
WE over ME.

MLB cut 40 minor league teams in 2021. A lot of small towns lost the only pro baseball they had. That's where a ton of people fell in love with the game, sitting right behind the dugout for 10 bucks.

Ask a former baseball player what he misses.
You’ll hear about the dugout. Batting practice. The bus rides. The guys.
Very few mention their batting average.
Funny how the numbers feel like everything when you’re playing, and the people become everything when you’re done.

This is not an incentive. This is a punishment.
Many coaching stipends have not changed for YEARS, but let’s take 25%-50% off their stipend.
If we got paid like a regular bus driver and made a decent amount for driving each game … more coaches would line up to get their CDL.

Why were the 70s better? Well, for one thing, I don’t see any major league umpires today shooting out baserunners with their finger guns.

At some point, baseball has to get back to valuing ballplayers and not just numbers on a screen. Give me the Freddie Freemans, the Buster Poseys, Hunter Pences, Pablo Sandovals, Michael Youngs, Ian Kinslers of the world. Guys who just flat out know how to play the game. Everyone wants to talk launch angle and exit velo, but what happened to valuing a quality at bat?” The 9-pitch battle that might end in an out, but forces a pitcher to show everything he’s got.
The guy who hits behind the runner, takes what’s given, or just refuses to give a pitcher an easy inning. Those at-bats might not look sexy in the box score, but they show up in the 7th, 8th, and 9th. Some of these dudes could absolutely leave the yard too. That’s the point. They weren’t one-dimensional. Somewhere along the way, we confused measurable tools with knowing how to win baseball games.
I’m not against analytics or hitting the ball hard, but there is an art to winning that you can’t fully measure. We need more guys who know how to play baseball, not just hitters, not just athletes, ballplayers. And I promise you, those dudes never go out of style

Can we start talking about the one thing inflation has never hit.., HS coaches pay? One of the most underpaid positions.

Based on the radar guns, a 92 mph fastball in 2005, would be 96-97 today.
An 85 mph fastball in the 1985 would be 93 mph today.
Radar guns now measure pitch velocity out of the hand, since a higher number is sexier.
95 mph & up used to be a blur. Now it’s not. So what’s next?
Dwight Gooden’s radar gun said 95 MPH.
Mason Miller’s says 103 MPH.
I synced both clips to release and again when the ball hits the catcher’s glove.
It’s going to be hard to convince me that Doc Gooden was only throwing 95 here.
Different era. Different radar technology. But visually? That baseball is getting there in a hurry.
95 vs. 103… you tell me. 👀🔥
