A woman spent $1,500 on a Samsung TV. For three years, she watched Netflix and YouTube and thought the picture was… fine. Then her friend, a home theater installer, visited. He looked at the screen for five seconds and asked: “Did you ever change the settings after you bought it?” She hadn’t. The picture was too bright in some scenes, oddly dim in others. Movies had that slippery “soap opera” look. Dialogue was hard to hear. Four remotes sat on the coffee table. He spent 12 minutes in the settings. By the end, she asked if he’d somehow upgraded the TV. Here are the nine things he changed: 🧵

Your Gmail probably contains emails you should have deleted years ago. Not because they’re old. Because they contain personal information. Here’s what I’d remove today.

Your WiFi router keeps a list of every site your devices visit. Most people have no idea it is there. Here is how to see yours and clear it:
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Most consumer WiFi routers do not log browsing history including sites visited, time spent, or visit counts, as they lack sufficient storage; any available logs typically show only IP addresses or domains on advanced models with optional features enabled. cnet.com/home/internet/… xda-developers.com/can-you-check-… lifewire.com/check-router-h…

My iPhone was hot, slow, and lagging on everything. I was already pricing out a new one. A repair shop owner took it, swiped through four screens, and handed it back. "Your phone is fine. Four settings are choking it.👇

Your iPhone has been tracking every place you’ve visited. Some phones log 200 entries a month. Some log far more. It lives behind Face ID. Apple shows a summary. Law enforcement gets the full database. Here’s where it lives and how to shut it off: 👇

YOU CARRY A TRACKING DEVICE EVERY DAY. It’s called your iPhone. Most people never check the settings. Here are 9 changes to protect your privacy: 1. Review App Permissions Now Settings → Privacy. Review which apps can access your camera, microphone, location, contacts, and photos. If a flashlight app requests microphone access, that's surveillance, not functionality. Remove all unnecessary permissions. 2. Disable Ad Tracking Everywhere Your phone uses an advertising ID to track you across every app and website. iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → toggle off. Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID. 3. Conceal Lock Screen Notifications 2FA codes, bank alerts, and private messages on your lock screen are an open invitation. iPhone: Settings → Notifications → Show Previews → When Unlocked. Android: Settings → Notifications → Hide sensitive content. 4. Implement a Real Password Manager Not your browser. Not your notes app. One unique password per account. Reusing passwords means one breach compromises everything. Nordpass is free, open-source, and works everywhere. 5. Activate 2FA Without SMS SIM swap attacks allow hackers to port your number and intercept codes. Use authenticator apps instead. SMS is not secure. Try Ente (free, open-source, encrypted backup) or check 2fa directory for supported services. 6. Disable Bluetooth and WiFi Both broadcast signals that track your location, identify your device, and can connect without consent. One swipe to turn them off when not using them. 7. Verify If You've Been Breached Chances are you have. Enter your email at (haveibeenpwned .com) to see which data breaches exposed your information. Then change those passwords immediately. 8. Activate Remote Wipe Now If your phone gets stolen, erase it from anywhere. iPhone: Settings → Apple ID → Find My → toggle on Erase Device. Android: Settings → Google → Find My Device → toggle on. Be safe

If you use Windows, you need to read this. Microsoft's AI takes screenshots of your screen every few seconds, your banking, your messages, your passwords as you type them. It stores everything you've looked at, searchable. Here are 5 moves to shut it off, and check if it's already been recording:
