All across Toronto, people are signing on to keep the Midtown Yonge Complete Street Pilot as a permanent part of our active transportation network. The majority of signers (~70%) live within 5km of the pilot area, knowing first-hand the value of a safer road for everyone.

Welcome to a Toronto, Mayor @JohnBauters! Great to have the Mayor of @EmeryvilleCA here in #TO to talk road safety and active commuting, show him how our city has benefited from investments in cycling infrastructure, and pick up some new ideas from our neighbours to the south.

Never forget, a 13-year study of a dozen cities found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. As for sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. V/@StreetsblogUSA usa.streetsblog.org/2019/05/…

According to the city's counts more people use ActiveTO (25,000-39,000) than the average attendance of a Jays game (~30,000). The Jays also don't play in Toronto every weekend. And not every 30,000 fan drives to the game. Not to mention stadium heavily subsidized by taxpayers.
Blue Jays President Mark Shapiro has written to Mayor Tory and council, urging an end to the ActiveTO program on Lake Shore West. “We support folks getting outside and being active, but Toronto has many options and routes to use, whereas our fans do not” toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2022…
