Web3 gaming being โinevitableโ is one of the biggest delusions in this space.
80%+ of gamers donโt even know what Web3 gaming is.
You havenโt won them over.
You havenโt even figured out what they want.
Yet somehow weโve already decided itโs inevitable. ๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ
I asked 5 gamers from completely different genres about NFTs and owning their in-game assets.
Guess what?
They were OPEN to it.
But then imagine telling them:
โYeah, you can own your assetsโฆ but you need to buy our token first. It might pump. It might dump. You need a wallet. You need gas. You need to understand the ecosystemโฆโ
Their response?
โScam.โ
And honestly, can you blame them?
Gamers aren't rejecting ownership.
They're rejecting the financial circus attached to it.
The problem isn't necessarily Web3.
The problem is that we've taken something gamers might actually wantโownershipโand wrapped it in tokens, speculation and financial jargon.
Build the game first.
Make people WANT to play.
Give them ownership.
Then let Web3 work quietly underneath.
Stop trying to convince gamers that Web3 gaming is inevitable.
Make it inevitable by building something they can't imagine gaming without.

Playtesters are the most underrated people in gaming.
They show up to broken builds.
They lose progress.
They write bug reports at 2 am.
They tell their mates about a game that isn't even finished.
The @0xCitadel beta showed it perfectly:
Play -> Feedback -> Discussed -> Fixed.
Every few days.
That loop only works because players cared enough to report stuff.
So projects, pay them back:
Credit them.
Reward them.
Give them first access next time.
Your testers are your first community & your first creators.
Treat them like it.
Ever tested a game that later made it big?

Not sure if I will be posting on X soon again.
So in case you don't see me here for a while, herewith my reasons.
I have a responsibility to our community to now go and fetch players for our games.
There are very very few actual gamers in Web3, mostly extractors, bots, scammers, jobbers, builders and content creators.
Some of them play games, but very few are willing to buy anything or support financially in any way because they are here to make a living themselves.
Chains have all lost faith in gaming.
There is little to no marketing support, financial support, or even infrastructural support.
There are some great BD on the chains, but they have no real power to bring Web3 gaming what it needs - massive market presence.
You need proper budgets and a proper marketing strategy for that, and there are only juniors in Web3 when it comes to marketing.
They gave that all to the scammers, KOLs and devs with their big fake following numbers and fake tx numbers.
Web3 KOLs and marketers had a season of selling cold water in the desert and have no idea how to create an Oasis.
They sucked the lakes dry with their overpriced greed and now the only way they can survive is to go from new well to new well and try and suck those dry with their crazy pricing as well.
Web3 has a terrible brand stigma and it is just getting worse.
Which is why Steam, IOS and Android shut out games that use any form of Crypto completely.
I gave four years of 18 hour days to doing things the right way, only to watch the botters, scammers and fakers get the grants and VC to build nothing.
They got MILLIONS!
MILLIONS!
So where am I going?
Well, unless we get some kind of genuine financial and marketing help from an investor or a chain or two, we won't be able to bring real gamers to Web3.
We will need to shove the Web3 tech waaaay into the back of the games, maybe even completely out of some versions so that we can build a community and slowly ease them into the tech.
We will need to establish a presence on Steam, Itch.io, IOS, Android etc. and focus heavily on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
Then we will aim to hit a budget ($300k) that allows us to do the following:
(Note that all of this has been attempted by non-gamers in Web3 who tried to build business models instead of a very specific community building mechanism - which is why they all failed.)
1) Build a truly plug and play, chain agnostic Web3 version of Steam where devs can launch their games without needing any knowledge of Web3 or contracts.
The tech needs to be completely invisible and players should be able to access collections from any chain for any game and sell it to each other on a simple marketplace.
2) The platform also needs to have integrated streaming tools, community building tools, clan management tools etc. so that we have a centralised Web3 gaming ecosystem where devs, creators, streamers, chains etc. and work in synergy to build Web3 gaming as a whole instead of the delusional splintered approach they currently have.
3) Establish a marketing team who understand the importance of separating legitimate Web3 gaming from the hellscape of the mainstream crypto world - which is nothing more than a legal grey zone for gamblers and criminals.
It has to be loud, it has to be aggressive, and it has to have extreme prejudice.
As far as I am concerned, every chain and every platform that has participated in gambling, pump and dump schemes, and insider trading facilitation should be in prison.
But that is not how the world works.
Where there are no shepherds, the wolves flourish and the sheep die.
We have presented this vision for our platform to many chains and they are simply not interested.
Frankly, I have no idea what they are interested in.
They all seem to be holding on to some vain hope that the world will have another Covid season full of bored people working at home while spending dumb money on worthless NFTs.
VC are only interested if we can launch a token that they can dump. Go to hell you parasites.
So unless some other miracle happens, we will need to distance ourselves from Web3 and CT and work hard to raise the funding ourselves through sales to actual gamers in Web2.
I believe in Web3 tech, I really do.
I just can't do this anymore.
We have a non profit org to fund, a lot of kids in poverty to take care of, and Web3 - for all its bluster about wanting to do good - is not a place that cares about stuff like that.
We have to be honest.
In four years, I have never felt like I fit here - trying to keep up with conversations on X stages and podcasts with people who talk about crypto like it's 1980's wall street while I am just a normie trying to fund a non-profit with gaming.
I never understood the cabals, social clicks, rigged DAO voting systems, or blatantly celebrated psychopathy by extractors who raised money for projects and spent it on crazy personal opulence.
I have honestly tried, and now I am tired.
I will still go live every day, but until we have the resources to built a Web3 gaming ecosystem the way it should be built, I just cannot be here anymore.
If I stay, our games will fail and I will burn out.
And neither of that can be allowed to happen.

I got a โSupport Teamโ DM on Discord that looked 100% real.
Calm tone, official name, and their first move was my wallet address "to verify me."
I stopped and asked for the source and havenโt gotten a response till now.
That's the new scam pattern.
It doesn't hack your wallet, it borrows a face you trust.
Fake support, cloned voices, deepfake calls.
That's exactly what @MEXC's AI Safety Score tests.

I've been playing Starfall by @OSP_TD , and honestly, this is the kind of experience I want to see more of in Web3 gaming.
You can literally reach out to the developer through Telegram, suggest features or improvements, and actually get a response.
Even better? The developer listens and implements suggestions.
Think about that for a moment.
You're not just playing a game and waiting for the next update. You're actively contributing ideas that could shape the game's development.
I think this is an underrated aspect of Web3 gaming.
We're so caught up in NFTs, tokens, play-to-earn and ownership that we sometimes overlook something equally important: community participation.
Players should have a voice. Developers should listen. Communities should grow alongside the games they support.
Web3 gaming shouldn't just be about owning assets in a game.
It should also be about having a stake in the ecosystem you're helping build.
Starfall is a cool example of the kind of relationship I want to see between gamers and developers.
@unclefunkdrew more of this, please. ๐ซก

I have been part of @metaspace_verse for almost 1.5 years now, while the team has been building the game for over 4 years.
It has been a journey full of challenges, lessons and things that did not always go as planned.
But we are still here learning, improving and building a game people genuinely enjoy playing.
Every year around this time, @PlayToEarn hosts the Blockchain Game Awards, where Web3 games and creators compete across different categories.
Last year, MetaSpace secured 2nd place in Best Action Game. ๐ฅ
This year, we are back with 4 nominations:
- Game of the Year
- Best Action Game
- Best Mobile Game
- Best Shooter Game
Building in Web3 gaming is not easy, and i am genuinely proud of how far we have come, knowing how much work goes into building a game from the ground up.
There are some amazing games competing this year, and they deserve recognition too.
But if you have ever played a Web3 game or genuinely want to see Web3 gaming grow, take a moment to explore the nominations and cast your votes.
