Last week mayor said his 2027 budget is 76% structural — but his team today put the ratio at 56%. CFO says police settlement borrowing plan should be included as part of the city’s budget gap. From @JakeSheridan_ and @ad_quig: chicagotribune.com/2026/10/2…

This morning, the federal government turned the full force of the Department of Homeland Security against a sitting member of Congress for the offense of disagreeing with the White House.
The path to citizenship should not be weaponized against anyone, including Rep. Ilhan Omar, a naturalized American who swore an oath to this country — the same one that I took.
The promise of citizenship should not be contingent on someone agreeing with the federal government.

Raiding the home of Congresswoman Omar based on a decades-old alleged paperwork error is part of Trump’s escalating effort to stoke fear and chaos and repress dissent. This is authoritarianism.
I hope political officials - Republicans and Democrats - will make clear that this is unacceptable. I stand with Ilhan Omar.

today and every day, we honor and celebrate the Native Nations and Indigenous communities whose histories, cultures and communities are deeply rooted in this land ❤️

Many tribes called this land home, before it was known as Illinois. On Indigenous People’s Day, we honor that history and look forward to a future together, built on truth, respect, and partnership.

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.
I will not be silenced.

Trump is an authoritarian.
He wants to intimidate his political opponents, the media and all those who disagree with him.
Ilhan Omar came to America legally as a child refugee fleeing civil war, became a citizen and was elected to Congress.
Trump is weaponizing the federal government to silence opposition. Fight back. Defend democracy.

Multiple advocacy groups endorsed the Divvy contract extension in committee today, but Lime managed to squeeze out a victory, as the vote was deferred. 🤔
Meanwhile alders voted unanimously to expand camera enforcement of bus and bike lanes citywise. 👍

I am angry tonight.
Because today ICE shot a New Yorker. They shot a New Yorker while his five year old child was in the car.
ICE makes this city less safe.
We want them out. Now.

Always fun when perceived clout gets blamed when the real problem is the Health Department’s decades long hostility to new/different food service concepts and the City’s decades long and generally unhinged over the top need to regulate everything on sidewalks…except Divvys.
NEW: Chicago Magazine just published a deep-dive into how the city is killing food carts.
It is illegal to run a Chicago-style hot dog cart in Chicago. Because it’s illegal to prep food on a licensed cart.
That’s why out of an estimated 3,000 food cart vendors in Chicago, just 12 are licensed.
“We’ve had a merchant culture in the past, like Maxwell Street. [But] the current status quo is a de facto ban,” I told Ed McClelland.
“We have a political culture that emphasizes who you know, and food cart vendors are at the bottom of the economic ladder.”
