Maybe I’m too Latin American for this crap bc since I’m not against pirating content I can’t see how people sharing their google drives (private archives) with others in a very specific situation is actually a problem

reposting fanart is bad even w credit because artists need engagement to be favored by the algorithm and thus, be perceived by more people, which invites comms etc. AO3 does not have an algorithm and the majority of people there dont write fics for money. So like??

As an ao3 author, here's my take on the strange discourse going around about stories being shared on drives:
I wrote it for free, I put it on the internet for free, I assumed that meant people were reading, sharing, and downloading for free
If I published a book, my expectation

My opinion on people downloading fic is that: if they intended to give comments/kudos, they would find a way to do so before or after downloading the fic. Writers aren't missing out just bc someone downloaded it to their private archive
Listen I get most of us do fan content for love and in exchange we crave validation like let’s be real but some of u are acting like people won’t left kudos and comments once ao3 work again and instead they are gonna start selling your a/o/b smut without credit you
1. Fancontent isn’t original content those aren’t our characters and us as artists still make money with it so that’s kinda hypocritical 2. People that repost fanart on tiktok gain traction constantly without credits, people sharing their drives credited n linked pdf doesn’t
Like idk imagine Twitter went down and people started sharing their googledrives with fanart they’ve saving of their favorite artists through the years. That's a more accurate comparison and prob nobody tell you they do that every day. Free content page allows it so

i think we should talk about how jax has compartmentalized attempts to love him as a threat because of his mother who emotionally abused him, and now he assumes this of ribbit (he calls them a manipulator trying to get into his head in the mountains) and later pomni
