Championship rings may represent success, but they don’t define the legacy of a program.
Mansfield Summit boys basketball head coach Emund Prichett joined us at RevoStudios for Coaches Corner to discuss his perspective on championship success, the importance of player development, and why he believes the greatest accomplishments in basketball extend far beyond winning trophies and collecting rings.
For Prichett, championships are something to celebrate, but they aren’t what defines him, his players, or the Mansfield Summit program. Instead, he places greater value on the work, growth, and commitment that go into building a successful team. The lessons learned throughout that process are what he believes will have the greatest impact long after a player’s basketball career comes to an end.
For Prichett, the rings represent much more than the games his teams have won. They symbolize the work his players put in, the relationships they built, and the preparation they’ve received for the challenges waiting beyond basketball.

Relentless pressure. That’s the defensive identity Shawn Dirden is building at Smoky Hill.
Smoky Hill girls basketball head coach Shawn Dirden joined us at RevoStudios for Coaches Corner to discuss his defensive philosophy, the importance of toughness, and why he believes an aggressive approach on that end of the floor can help his team make a deep run in the state tournament.
Defense has been a defining part of Dirden’s basketball journey. From establishing himself as a defensive-minded player to taking ownership of defensive responsibilities throughout his coaching career, he’s carried that mentality into every program he’s been a part of. Now at Smoky Hill, he’s determined to make it the foundation of the Buffaloes’ identity.
That commitment goes beyond forcing turnovers or getting stops. Dirden wants his players to embrace the challenge of defending every possession, understanding that their effort, communication, and focus can become the difference in close games and postseason matchups.

Defense is becoming a major part of the identity at Grapevine Faith!
Grapevine Faith boys basketball head coach Scott Hyde joined us at RevoStudios for Coaches Corner to discuss the defensive transformation taking place within his program and why he believes this year’s group has made significant strides on that end of the floor.
After adjusting his defensive approach to fit the personnel on his roster, Hyde has seen his players begin to understand the bigger picture behind what they’re being asked to do. Communication, purpose, and accountability have become key parts of the Lions’ defensive philosophy, with an emphasis on winning every possession regardless of whether the opponent scores.
That energy is becoming contagious throughout the program. With the Lions already capable of making things happen offensively, Hyde believes establishing a consistent defensive identity can take the team to another level.

Year three is about putting everything together for Joshua basketball!
Joshua boys basketball head coach Jacob Dawson joined us at RevoStudios for Coaches Corner to discuss the evolution of his program, the adjustments made on both ends of the floor, and why he believes the Owls are positioned to take another step forward this season.
Offensively, the Owls have undergone a transformation. Dawson initially emphasized ball movement and a motion-based approach before recognizing the need to create advantages against bigger and more athletic opponents. That led to the introduction of Princeton-style offensive concepts last season, giving Joshua a different way to compete within its district.

Championships aren’t always measured by trophies. Sometimes, the biggest victories happen beyond the basketball court.
Burleson Centennial boys basketball head coach Larry Petite joined us at RevoStudios for Coaches Corner to discuss his championship mentality, the lessons he’s carried from his playing days at Tarleton, and what winning truly means to him as a head coach.
That doesn’t mean the expectations on the court are any lower. Petite wants his Spartans competing at the highest level, playing hard every possession, and pursuing championships whenever they step on the floor. His goal is to create a program where success is measured by both the accomplishments of the team and the growth of the individuals within it.
