Such a shame to see Pleasure Island looking like this many years on.
With plans for redevelopment it still holds so many happy memories for so many in the North East Lincolnshire area and so many fun days out with the kids when they were younger

Look, you patronising plonker - you don't get to shift to a lifetime prevalence.
0.01% of homes this month is awful. Any amount of rape is awful. But it's not 1 in 12 at any moment. It is, on a "we all exist in this moment" basis, a limited proportion of homes. Vs women not feeling/being safe in the public realm in general.
And when you look at the Nordics, who actually capture detailed data on immigration status, the prevalence of men who commit stranger rape is c.2x higher among immigrant groups.
Which means that mass immigration makes the public realm less safe for women.
If that's too complicated for you, let's just ask everyone if they'd rather their daughter popped out of the house in a mini skirt in Kidderminster or Kabul.
And then ask what immigration is actually meant to achieve.
I'm old fashioned here but I think the point of any policy is to improve the country. If it isn't materially improving the country, it's bad policy. If it's increasing the overall chance of women being raped, it's bad policy.
"A very limited proportion of private homes"? 1 in 12 women in England and Wales (8.2%) have been raped or assaulted by penetration at least once since the age of 16. Is that limited? For just over half of them (54.7%), it was a partner or ex. 67% of these attacks happen in her home or his.
About "the public realm"; streets, parks, pubs and clubs, car parks and public transport put together: 12%. If 1 in 12 is limited, what do you call 12% of it?
"All women should be exposed to ever greater danger" If that was happening, the share of women raped or assaulted by penetration would be going up. But it's not.
Between the 2011 and 2021 censuses, the share of people in England and Wales born outside the UK rose from 13.4% to 16.8%.
The share of women aged 16 to 59 raped or assaulted by penetration in a year was 1.0% in 2004/05, 0.7% in 2014/15 and 0.4% in 2024/25. The share attacked at least once since 16 has held between 8.2% and 8.9% in every survey since 2021, when the ONS started asking women of every age.
Before that it asked women only up to 59, then up to 74, and each time the age range widened the figure went up: 5.5% to 6.5% between 2014/15 and 2016/17, then 7.1% in 2019/20.
You can't even understand what you are reading. Sad.

The real cost to business is £16.95 when you include NI, statutory holiday pay and minimum employer pension contributions.
This is unfathomably stupid.
There are many viable businesses that are unviable because of this. My first job was £2.30 an hour and there were no employment rights, minimum wage or holiday pay. The job was a privilege and created the right incentives to work hard.
Economics is about what works, not what sounds good. The incentives here are flipped and a job is now being treated like an entitlement.
So let's talk about the two big consequences for businesses already operating at the margin:
1. Wage compression - less jobs for younger people as it is less risky to employ older, more mature people for base wage roles.
2. Businesses that are currently viable or on the margin, will become unviable.
We are ruled my morons.
Maybe its just me, but running a small business has never - certainly not in my lifetime - been as difficult as it is right now and I'm struggling to find reasons to carry it on.
Its certainly not for the work life balance, or for the money. Its not for an easy life, or to relieve avoid stress.
So what is it for? To keep other people employed? To keep paying ever more tax?
Its been 25 years, and I think I'm done.

An increase to £13.20p/h equates to a minimum wage of £27,456, based on a 40 hour week.
Once you factor in employers NI and basic pension contributions, the MINIMUM cost to hire a 21 year old for a company would be £31,461.
This is before you factor in any overarching business costs like office space, laptops, phone, software, training, support staff, vehicles etc.
This is going to be devastating to SME's who cant put together a simple 12 month budget without the goalposts being moved & their margins squeezed.
It'll also be catastrophic to youngsters opportunities because businesses will simply not be able to afford to hire them.
What's also incredible is that anything above £50,270 is seen as 'high earnings' in the UK and is taxed at 40%!
We are governed by financially and economically illiterate morons.
This will not end well.

When my wife passed away last year, I decided to take a break from work. A few months ago, I decided to get back to work. 2 month later and approx 150 job applications later, feck all. Maybe its my age as I'm 59. Is it like that in the UK? – at Science Hill, KY

We all know that you can skimp on providing for the future, but eventually you will pay.
A government that is preparing you to eat cold beans from a tin while the water pipes freeze has finally admitted that it has failed in its most basic duty to invest for the future.
From energy to water, from defence to border security, they cannot keep us safe, because our politicians have been too self-interested and too indifferent to invest in the things we need the state to do.
