Mickel, isn’t it misleading and disingenuous to base your argument on a media headline as though those were the Prime Minister’s exact words? “No NIDS, No benefits” is IRIE FM’s headline, not a verified verbatim quote from PM.
If we’re going to raise constitutional concerns, shouldn’t we establish exactly what he said and the context before drawing conclusions? A headline is not a transcript. Adding Sleek headline as backup that’s terrible, but I see your hand clearly miss.
Media reports indicate that Prime Minister Dr @AndrewHolnessJM stated Jamaicans must register for the National Identification System (NIDS) to access government benefits, especially aid for Hurricane Melissa victims. This is concerning.
While accountability is important to prevent abuse of the process by some, noting digital ID may assist in mitigating such abuse as well as enhance speed, we caution against any policy that risks breaching the Constitution.
The 2019 Constitutional Court ruling in Robinson v AG held that coercing NIDS enrollment by denying access to public services was disproportionate and unconstitutional. The successor legislation made enrollment voluntary for this reason.
If the media reports are true, we urge the government to carefully consider whether a “No NIDS, No benefits” approach complies with that judgment before it is implemented.
Any condition on benefits must still meet the constitutional standard set by the Court.
If the PM’s statement was misrepresented by the media, it is important that the OPM clarifies.

The 49ers have now made two major moves to bolster their DT room, adding Osa Odighizuwa from the Cowboys this offseason and DeForest Buckner from the Colts today.
Trade: Colts are sending three-time Pro-Bowl DT DeForest Buckner back to the 49ers, the team that made him a 2016 first-round pick before dealing him to Indianapolis in 2020, per me and @rapsheet. Now Buckner returns to San Francisco, fortifying the 49ers defensive line.

Tomorrow marks one year since Hurricane Melissa changed the lives of thousands of Jamaicans. My thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones and those still struggling to rebuild their homes and lives.
I know recovery is taking too long for many families. We must address the delays in delivering assistance and ensure that no community is overlooked.
We are strengthening our disaster response by improving our mapping of communities and increasing the Jamaica Defence Force’s airlift capacity.
One year later, our work continues. Getting help to those who are still recovering remains a priority.

Fun fact:
Last night’s announcement was yet another big anniversary and full circle moment for Jay-Z.
20 years ago, October 2006, he officially premiered the video for “Show Me What You Got” at halftime on Monday Night Football on ESPN.
This was his first official single post-retirement and the lead single to “Kingdom Come.”
It also served as the introduction of Armand de Brignac (Ace of Spades).
20 years later, also at halftime on Monday Night Football on ESPN he was announced as the headliner to next year’s Super Bowl.
I don’t believe that any of these things are coincidental. This entire #JAŸZ30 celebration has been well calculated.

It’s finally official!
I knew it would be him back in February when I saw him rocking the Planes “the game needs me” merch at the Super Bowl and Beyoncé posted those pictures.
Everything he’s done this year was leading up to this.
#JAŸZ30 is not only a celebration of his illustrious career, but also his campaign to headline the Super Bowl.
And that’s what I appreciate the most, the fact that he could have easily picked himself as the headliner based on his past resume or simply because… he COULD and it’s HIS decision to make.
Which is exactly what some people want you to believe, that he selfishly picked himself.
No! He picked the most deserving artist in 2026!
He took this entire year to make the case as to WHY he DESERVES to be the headliner this time around.
Earned not given.
Also, a celebration of such an iconic career SHOULD culminate at the world’s biggest stage.
And I’m sure there’s even more things to look forward to.
2026 AND 2027 IS ALL OFFENSE!
