I don't imagine there are many settlers who didn't grow up near a residential school and/or Indian Hospital -- I attended high school a 15 min walk from Coqualeetza (residential school, 1886-1940; Indian Hospital, 1940-69). Imagine revisiting yr family history w/ this evidence.

Economics is said to be the opposite of entertaining to barricade most of everyday life from democratic interest and accountability. Mainstream economists have even gone so far as to turn its study into algebraic equations so obtuse even Albert Einstein would doze off.... 1/2

Evidence for the #ClimateAction lawsuit: Environment and Climate Change Canada abandoned its work on ending thermal coal exports without ever notifying the public and without any record of being directed to do so, according to a new audit. theglobeandmail.com/canada/a… #cdnpoli

You don’t reduce crime by simply punishing people harder. You reduce crime by building communities where people have something to lose and something to live for. Affordable housing. Accessible healthcare. Good-paying jobs. Quality education. Childcare families can afford. Mental health and addiction services. A real path out of poverty. Public safety isn’t just about what happens after a crime is committed, it’s about creating the conditions that prevent desperation, instability and crime in the first place. The safest communities aren’t the ones that punish poverty the hardest, they’re the ones that invest in people. Lets seriously invest in people struggling and make life better for everyone.

Two landmark decisions from 2025 ruled Canada has a legal obligation to provide clean drinking water and adequate housing to remote First Nations. The nation is now appealing both and APTN’s Kyler Minshull was in court today to listen in on day one. youtu.be/lCiuxNVWlF0

One of the greatest, most influential pioneers in American's women's basketball says the divisiveness that's hurting the WNBA so much, right now, isn't just coming from the outside, from ignorant fan bases. There's too much "jealousy and envy" within the league, she says.
Has Caitlin Clark & Angel Reese hate spilled into the W? 🤔 Nancy Lieberman credits the Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese rivalry for the WNBA's salary increases.

Thank you Lana for highlighting the huge risks in this approach. Once employers know risk of work stoppage is off the table, real bargaining will stop. Codifying this form of interference as a regular feature of industrial relations jeopardises the fundamental right to bargain.
National President @Lanampayne tells the federal government to pump the brakes on Bill C-39. Unifor presented to both the Senate and the House of Commons on Oct 26, and shared the union's deep concerns on how the law would seriously curtail workers' rights to strike and bargain collectively.

While BC invested in harm reduction and decriminalized minor possession offenses, "critics judged both harm reduction and decriminalization by whether the policies could quickly reduce visible street disorder." Rachel Pettigrew nails the mistaken priorities that derailed policy.
New in @ccpa's BC election series: Rachel Pettigrew argues against law-and-order approaches to addictions and mental health, in favour of an evidence-based humane approach grounded in appropriately-funded public services. policyalternatives.ca/news-r…

Public control is gaining traction in Andy Burnham’s government. But what does it mean? In a new piece with @AnnaHopeEmerson we set out a clear definition. Public control is the capacity of the state to steer the strategic direction of economic activity through the public-purpose orientation of its policy tools. Ownership is one tool, not the only one. How we fight inflation doesn't just matter for the economy. It matters for democracy. If government decisions leave people poorer, more indebted and less secure, we risk deepening the conditions that have emboldened the far-right. 🔗 My article for the @FT. Link below.

The Indian Act was created in 1876 and no longer reflects today's realities. It’s time for a new path forward. Modernizing or abolishing the Indian Act must be led by First Nations and grounded in self-determination and meaningful partnerships. Together, we can build a stronger future for all.

Abolish the Indian Act. We have nothing to lose but our chains. We will, of course, need new legislation that is an interface between the Federal government and First Nations. And this MUST be created alongside Chiefs and First Nation governments every step of the way. But it is time to move past the era of this outdated, racist, and patriarchal legislation. I support Prime Minister Carney’s work to position Canada as a global leader in human rights and democracy. The Indian Act is inconsistent with achieving that vision. Our laws at home should reflect the values we champion around the world. It’s time for a relationship with First Nations people that reflects who we are as Canadians today, recognizes nationhood, and lives up to the true nature of reconciliation.

Clark's populism narrated the enemies of hard working British Columbians as environmentalists and public sector unions. For past 16 months, on the other hand, Conservatives have lied about Cowichan and DRIPA to frame FNs as biggest threats to hard working British Columbians.

Alluding to his approach to Indigenous people in BC, incoming Premier Lorne Doerksen speaks of a relationship based on “certainty”. Let’s be clear: That’s code for opposing Indigenous land rights, the Cowichan decision - and blaming DRIPA on it. #BCElection2026 #bcpoli

Therapy can only do so much if you’re not able to get your basic needs met. Mental health is affordable housing. Mental health is free healthcare. Mental health is free education. Mental health is food security. Mental health is financial stability. Therapy can’t fix the system.
