Beenie Man is ‘Brand Jamaica’? 🤣🤣🤣 I’ve travelled, and whenever I tell people I’m Jamaican, there’s often instant recognition and excitement. Funny enough, not once has anybody responded, ‘Beenie Man!’ 😂 He’s a Jamaican music icon, absolutely, but let’s not mistake that for being Brand Jamaica.
Two years ago, Andrew Holness handed Beenie Man an award at the Independence Grand Gala for what he's done for Jamaica.
Now he calls him "someone who benefits from Brand Jamaica."
I'm not even a Beenie Man fan. But I'm not pretending the 90s and early 2000s didn't happen.
Beenie Man didn't come from Brand Jamaica. Brand Jamaica came from Beenie Man.
Tell someone overseas you're Jamaican. What do they think of? Bob Marley. Reggae. Usain Bolt. Jerk chicken. The accent.
Take the people out. What's left? Beaches. Every island has beaches.
So yes, protect Brand Jamaica. But know what you're protecting. It's not the flag. It's the people who made the world care about the flag.
Think what Beenie said was wrong? Fair. Argue that. But "he benefits from the brand" doesn't answer his point. It really attacks his right to make it.
You don't benefit from the brand. You are the brand.
That's where I stand. Where do you stand?

The concept of buju "schooling" the Prime Minister is actually hilarious. Stupider words have never been strung together.

PM Holness is absolutely right. Nobody is saying entertainers cannot criticise Jamaica or the Government. But you cannot spend your time tearing down the country, then suddenly become the biggest Jamaican patriot when it is time to promote a concert.
Wave the flag, yes. Criticise, yes. But understand that with influence comes responsibility. Brand Jamaica should not only matter when it sells tickets.
Reggae and dancehall superstar Buju Banton is hitting back at comments by Prime Minister Andrew Holness that some entertainers wave the Jamaican flag to get fans to attend their shows, while tearing down the country with their criticisms.

Some of the chief purveyors of wrongdoing and criminality in this country, who think they are fooling the people, are the first to assume an ostensibly righteous soapbox and seek to tell lies on Jamaica.
In seeing to assist the cause of their political party, the PNP, they are actually willing to hurt Jamaica and the people of Jamaica.
Regardless of who they are, the lies by wolves in sheep’s clothing, will be called out.

The doctors who went back to work at public health spaces are Govt too. This is literally incapable of being correct since if you are paid by the Government, you are a part of Govt.

People in the comments are FURIOUS with the government for wasting money on this, but this isn’t GOJ’s project. The cost to GOJ was $0.
This is Chris Issa’s project. All paid for by him. Considering that 99% of people won’t read beyond the caption, I think it’s something Main Dangers could have pointed in the caption or image 🤷♂️

Someone should make a list of all the fools cussing the government for wasting money on a monument built by a private sector entity.
The Idiot List!😂
Shows you how absolutely stupid the naysayers of progress are
Clutching at imaginary straws!😂

Standing at 62 feet, "Together We Rise" was sculpted in honour of the resilience of Jamaicans and the generosity of those who supported recovery efforts after Hurricane Melissa.

What do yall benefit from posting BS? The JDF literally brought lots of care packages around from start to end.

What I am realizing with this Beenie Man and alot of Jamaicans.
Their idea of recovery is not the restoration of Electricity & Water, rebuilding Hospitals & Schools and roads clean up etc. They are still in the mindset of a more personalized benefit.
That's what I'm hearing
