Senior Lecturer in Mental Health, views are my own. Detest Tories, Reform and impoliteness. Sanity is merely the insanity of the majority.

People talk of the economy and business as if they are independent entities to be appeased. They are not. They are creations of people, run by people, manipulated by people, controlled by people. It's the greed of the people in control that needs addressing.

Education is a public good, not a commodity. As Andy Burnham calls for greater public control of essential services, UCU general secretary Jo Grady asks: where is that ambition for post-16 education? Universities and colleges need proper funding. ucu.org.uk/article/14691/UCU…

When I was seeking IVF many clinics including Guys wouldn't treat me because my chances of success were so low. I then spent a grand proving them right. Whilst it wasnt ethics (they just wanted their success figures unimpinged) it was a protection of sorts. What chance now?!
Private equity buys UK fertility clinics. Usual business model. High debt, quality of care declines, prices increase, high profits. When things go wrong, NHS has to step in. thebusinessdesk.com/northwes…

I don’t think I ever believed I’d see a newspaper paragraph like this: President Trump ‘said he would welcome immigrants from Denmark but not from Norway “because ‌I didn’t get the Nobel Prize, so I don’t want anybody from Norway”.’

🚨Johnson Government’s Care-Home Failures: Inquiry Confirms Catastrophe, Yet No One Faces Criminal Charges Days after the COVID Inquiry branded Boris Johnson’s government an “afterthought” on care homes, campaigners demand answers on why no misconduct prosecutions have followed. The Module 6 report, released 20 October 2026, found policy failures—including discharging untested hospital patients without isolation advice—let the virus “spread like wildfire,” contributing to more than 43,000 care-home deaths involving COVID between March 2020 and July 2022. Hancock’s “protective ring” claim was simply unfounded. A 2022 High Court ruling had already declared those early discharge policies unlawful for ignoring known asymptomatic transmission risks. Ministers acted under immense pressure and incomplete advice, the courts noted, yet the scale of avoidable harm remains undisputed. With the inquiry confirming systemic neglect of the most vulnerable, the absence of criminal accountability looks less like due process and more like the establishment protecting its own. Families deserve more than reports and apologies.

Dear @IsabelOakeshott will you please clarify what lobbying and public opinion campaign you/Oakright offered to Lybia (via former MP Daniel Kawczynski who now works with you)? Why was that not registered under FIRS lobbying rules? Was any Reform MP doing anything linked to Lybia?

This looks like abuse of public funds. A Vice-Chancellor earning over £500,000 claims expenses for his wife’s travel, including a “philanthropic engagement” in New York and a “spouse programme” in Switzerland How is this acceptable? Is it not fraud? thetimes.com/uk/education/ar…

University investigations serve the interests of the administrators who order them. The administrator's unit pays the bill, and the investigators report back to the people who hired them. They are selling a product to a client. An administrator who wants to close a unit, remove a colleague, or take out an esteemed scientist lacks the credibility or capital to do it outright. An investigation supplies what is missing. The investigators produce a report, and that report gives the desired action legitimacy and authority. The administrator no longer has to defend the decision as “I don’t like this guy” or explain why destroying someone’s laboratory serves the institution’s mission. They can point to the findings of what they call an independent investigation. The report provides cover, while the financial relationship between the investigators and the institution buying their services gets swept aside. This creates an obvious incentive to produce something the client finds useful. Leading questions, selective attention to negative accounts, and disregard for contrary evidence turn the investigation into a process for building the case administrators wanted. A lengthy report bearing a law firm’s or audit office’s name gives the result an appearance of authority that outsiders lack the information to challenge. Corporate America hires consultants to justify decisions management already wants to make, while shielding executives from blame. Businesses defend confidentiality as protecting commercial interests and their owners’ investments. Universities claim a different mission. They receive taxpayer support to generate and disseminate knowledge for the public good. Importing corporate tactics to conceal administrative decisions betrays that mission. Public money should not finance a bureaucracy buying outside cover for actions it refuses to justify.
Replying to @LocasaleLab
Ive seen this kind of thing. Investigators even admit they dont see a balanced investigation as the point, they think they only need to gather wrong in order to substantiate a case, and such alleged wrongs need little/no verification. The process itself is ideologically driven

Think about this. If you have the young badly educated and fooled by status purchasing and in massive debt. If you restrict cash. If huge swathes live in fear of benefit sanctions. It's Game Over for Freedom. But don't worry. Wave your flag eh 🤣🇬🇧
