Very vexed to hear Jim Gracey has died. He was a superb journalist - a wonderful writer with an unrivalled contacts book packed with big sporting names who always answered his calls. Just as importantly he was a great friend and colleague. My sympathy to his wife Paula and family

#OTD in 1926, Charles Wood died in Cambridge.
A pupil and successor of Stanford, Wood remains central to the Anglican choral tradition.
His centenary year brings welcome renewed attention, with Jeremy Dibble’s new biography and SOMM’s recording of the string quartets.

"Ngidi’s translation matters... African languages are not peripheral to global literary culture but active participants in it, capable of carrying, reshaping and reinterpreting some of the most demanding works ever written."
Thanks to the African literary scholar, my dear brother, @tinsmush, Assistant Professor in African and African American Studies, and @TC_Africa for this insightful piece on my short translation of Ulysses. Ukwanda kwaliwa wumthakathi!
"In fact, reading Joyce in isiZulu raises larger questions about literary inheritance. Who owns a literary classic? Joyce himself was deeply concerned with the relationship between language and power."
