Miami Beach sent armed police to Raquel Pacheco’s home because she criticized the Mayor’s rhetoric about Palestinians on social media. The officers refused to leave and told her not to post such content again. Now, a federal judge has ruled that Raquel’s First Amendment lawsuit, brought by ADC, can proceed.
VICTORY in @adc case Pacheco v. City of Miami Beach! Earlier this year, the Mayor sent police to veteran Raquel Pacheco's house because she had criticized the Mayor's dehumanizing rhetoric against Palestinians on social media. The cops refused to leave even though she said she didn't want to speak to them without a lawyer, insinuated her post could be unlawful as it could incite violence, and told her to refrain from posting such content in the future. Today, the judge in the Southern District of Miami DENIED much of Defendants' motion to dismiss, finding that the police visit could constitute unlawful viewpoint discrimination and retaliation under the First Amendment. The judge also held we could proceed on our theory of municipal liability against the City, because we had alleged facts demonstrating a pattern or practice of discriminating against pro-Palestine speech in the City of Miami Beach. The government really doesn’t want us to know what they’re doing with our phones. They just alerted me they are intending to respond to the judge’s order to show cause, meaning they are doubling down on maintaining the redactions
Once again, @matthew_petti of @reason does a fantastic job covering our case. As he noted, Judge Brinkema’s order to the government to provide unredacted declarations establishing what was done with our clients’ phones and laptops and what data was taken off them is significant. “The Court finds that most of the redacted information is not privileged law enforcement information and should not be sealed,” she declared. We are finally getting a look behind the government's covert efforts to access the contents of Americans' phones by seizing them at the border, without a warrant or even individualized suspcison. In @adc's latest phone seizure case, Imam v. Mullin, the court in the Eastern District of Virginia ordered the gov't to provide information about precisely what it did with our clients' phones and laptops from declarants with firsthand knowledge. The government submitted declarations that appeared to redact the relevant information, including the basis for the seizures, as well as what was done with Plaintiff Imam's devices. Judge Brinkema just found these redactions unwarranted and ordered the government to unseal most of them.

In official communications the State Department says the war was started at Israel’s request
So blame Trump my friend. Trump, and only Trump, made the decision to go to war. It’s his stupid, illegal war. Don’t blame Israel.

Portrait of a people "resistant to Palestinian pain but traumatized from war, fed up with the world"
In my interviews with Israelis, a portrait has emerged: a people defiant but weary, resistant to Palestinian pain but traumatized from war, fed up with the world but fearful of global isolation, and in a tug-of-war with themselves. Read and listen: npr.org/2026/10/25/g-s1-1495…

Morning Joe gets emotional over RFK Jr.'s racist anti-Arab remarks Bobby Kennedy was the reason I got involved in politics and I told Jr. that. He understood that we were stronger as were more diverse. It's hard to even imagine how ashamed he would be of his son for denigrating over a billion people because of their faith. Specifically when Bobby Kennedy talked about how America had to move to becoming a country that moved beyond prejudices based on faith and race. This is what RFK Jr. did when he campaigned with Mike Rogers, another guy that I've known, liked, respected—who's running an abhorrent, racist, bigoted campaign.

If the Interior Minister of Japan started committing war crimes with our tax dollars we'd get to know him.
NYT's Bret Stephens whines that Democrats know "Smotrich and Ben-Gvir" but not "the interior minister of Japan." Their "obsession" with Israel drives him "crazy." (Being politically informed on Israel is now anti-Semitic.)

🚨ADC secured the return of four electronic devices seized from Muhammad Numaan Imam and Khadijah Mansoor at Dulles Airport. In Imam v. Mullin, a federal judge ordered CBP to provide sworn accounts of whether agents unlocked, searched, or extracted data from the devices, raising serious Fourth Amendment concerns. “It was like this biblical battle where the Palestinian men … went in front of me to protect me.” It’s young Palestinian men who put their lives on the line every day to defend their families, homes, and even foreign journalists from violent Israeli settlers and soldiers.
“It was like this biblical battle where the Palestinian men … went in front of me to protect … me and my rescuers from being attacked again,” Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine told Jake Tapper. Levine was kicked, beaten with clubs and robbed by Israeli settlers while covering Friday’s olive harvest in the occupied West Bank, leaving her with multiple broken bones. Speaking after leaving the hospital, she said Israeli soldiers charged Palestinian farmers as settlers advanced alongside them. She said that unlike her, Palestinian victims endure these attacks daily, with absolutely nowhere safe to go.

Once again, President Trump resorts to fearmongering and hateful rhetoric instead of offering real solutions to the problems Americans face. Families are struggling with the rising costs of groceries, gas, and basic living expenses, yet the President would rather stoke fear and division than address their concerns. This rhetoric is tired, dangerous, and designed to distract from the realities facing everyday Americans. I hope voters see through these tactics so we can come together and focus on getting this country back on track. - Jenin Younes, President & Legal Director, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC)

UPDATE in Imam v Mullin: at an emergency hearing held today in federal court in Alexandria, Judge Brinkema ordered the government to submit information by CoB Monday about what it did with the plaintiffs’ phones and laptops during their unlawful seizure. She expressed concern about what happened here, particularly because Mr. Imam works as a psychiatric nurse and his devices contain confidential patient records and information, and Ms. Mansoor’s devices contain her work product as a software engineer as well as photos of her without her hijab, and the thought of strangers viewing them caused her great distress. The government stated today at the hearing that they had recently returned the items, although they hadn’t yet reached plaintiffs. This is one of several cases in which @adc is challenging the CBP’s seizure of electronic devices at the border, which is escalating in frequency and appears targeted and punitive. As we and other groups argue and are urging the Supreme Court to hold, such action violates the Fourth Amendment and should be prohibited without a warrant
We @adc are again on the frontlines of the fight against CBP’s abuse of its authority at the border. The agency has been using the border search exception to punish and retaliate against journalists, activists and lawyers who express views contra to the Administrations— as it did in our other two cases on behalf of @MaxBlumenthal and lawyer Jalal Shehadeh—by insisting on accessing the contents of their phones, and seizing those devices when such access was refused. Our new client Muhammad Imam protested, when he explained that as a psychiatric nurse, his phone contained confidential patient data and so he refused to permit CBP access. CBP punitively took his phone and laptop, as well as those belonging to his wife, and revoked his global entry status. We have hearing tomorrow in the eastern district of Virginia, where we will demand an explanation for CBP’s unlawful conduct. I obtained 140 pages of internal State Department emails from when I was being imprisoned and interrogated by the IDF. The correspondence reveals that U.S. officials referred to me as “kidnapped” by the Israeli military while explicitly refusing to consider me "wrongfully detained." Officials were informed of day-long interrogations and made aware of my detention in a notoriously abusive Israeli prison. The emails show no U.S. effort to intervene on my behalf, only a focus on PR and limiting political fallout. Link in reply

After a two-day blackout from the New York Times homepage on anything related to Gaza, the occupied West Bank or Lebanon, today [10/23/2026], the New York Times homepage has a single report from the West Bank. The article reports on Israeli soldiers who were shot by Palestinians - and in a blatant act of propaganda, the headline fails to acknowledge the Israelis were armed soldiers - instead just calls them "Israelis"
Two days ago, ADC documented how The New York Times homepage completely ignored anything Gaza, the occupied West Bank and Lebanon. Today, October 22, 2026, the same blackout continues: across more than 160 news items, opinion pieces and videos, there is not a single item covering Gaza, the occupied West Bank or Lebanon.
