Mayor Mamdani says he’s opposed to mass surveillance, but he declines to say whether he thinks the NYPD should use stingray devices that track cell phones — even though his admin is moving forward w/ contracting a firm to operate them
“I'll get back to you,” he says.

New: NYC will pay the teachers’ union $8.7 million for “building positive nurturing environments” during the COVID pandemic in 2020-2022 under a RETROACTIVE contract approved last night by the Panel for Educational Policy. The DOE refused to specify what labor the UFT provided, or explain why the city is funding it SIX YEARS LATER.

Stay focused. You still have time to vote early! Check your local deadlines and make a plan to participate. If your state doesn’t offer early voting, you can cast your ballot on November 3 for the midterm elections.

"Nearly 7 weeks into the school year, we are working with the families of multiple kindergarten students who have not yet attended school " because mandated NYC busing is not yet in place, a lawyer for @AFCNewYork told the Panel for Educational Policy last night. Other students with disabilities in 1rst grade to high school have not yet made it to class while @nycschools fumbles bus routes.
Unacceptable.
NYC spends over $2 billion annually on school transportation, up from roughly $1.2 billion a decade ago. Yet too many students and families still face unreliable service.
NYCSBUS offers a promising model for greater public oversight and accountability.
More spending must mean better service. Much more work remains.

People will honestly work to destroy your reputation just so they can steal your work, because destroying Black celebrity worship is what Antonio & I have been doing for a decade.
FD Signifier explains that the point of his video is to cut down on celebrity worship, especially among Black people.
He points to Black celebrities people love without paying attention to their politics.
According to him , It hurts to see where Jasmine Crockett is right now. It hurts to see Jay-Z's views on capitalism. And it hurts to see what Kanye West has become.
His argument is that you can criticize them and still love their art.
Killer Mike, who dissed him in a freestyle, is his example.
He said , people are shocked to learn Mike is still one of his favorite rappers, and part of why he made the video was to reconnect with the music he loved so much.
He even admits he almost feels bad. In the last few months Mike has been doing interviews with prominent Democrats, which FD jokes is his "my bad" moment for Stacey Abrams.
He does credits that shift to people kicking Mike's back, and he gives Mike props for being willing to change.
According to him , Mike putting himself in a position to be criticized shows he isn't too far gone. Many of the Black leaders in that "misleadership" role refuse to be held accountable at all.
He respects Mike for that, and hopes the guy who once said "I'm going to burn this motherf***er down" is still in there.
