Bravo to the awesome @jonesgarethp for this superb musical effort about my Chamberlain book! I can see Neville bobbing his head to it now... 🎶😆👏
Today @ADStedman requested a "ska-inspired twenty-second elevator pitch" for his book about Neville Chamberlain. So I made this.

10 days to publication day! My book on the infamous 1933 Oxford Union King and Country debate features some fascinating characters, including Cyril Joad, who stole the show by making the ultimate pacifist speech. But what else influenced the vote? Find out by buying the book...

There seems to be a fairly solid 1:1 ratio between those who tweet daily 'you should read more about Neville Chamberlain' and the very same folk who really ought to actually read a bit more about Neville Chamberlain. 😆

Lay in 'his' hammock as a boy (HMS Victory guided tour). Fantastic stuff. 'Fired' a canon too... Great tourist guide who brought the battle vividly to life. 😆👏
21 October 1805. British naval hero Horatio Nelson (aged 47) was killed during the Battle of Trafalgar. He was shot by a French sniper while walking on the quarterdeck of his ship HMS Victory. He was carried below deck to receive medical attention but died 3 hours later.

Dad's in his 70s now. I've never seen him watch a full movie. He watches any random 20 minutes of any random film he discovers, then changes channel, bored, just as it starts to make sense. He may have seen several full movies this way over the years - but in 10 seperate sittings

Strong agree.

Good comeback from #LFC, but worryingly 'off it' in the first half hour. Reds very much a work in progress this season. A lot to like. A lot to work on. Entertaining, as ever. Rio electric. ⚡️😀👏

With great sadness, we received information about the passing of an Auschwitz Survivor Hermann Höllenreiner, who died three days before his 93rd birthday. Hermann Höllenreiner was a German Sinto. He was born in Hagen on 19 October 1933, and he grew up in Munich. In March 1943, aged nine, he was deported with his family to the German Nazi camp Auschwitz, where he was registered under prisoner number Z-3526 and imprisoned in the section designated by the SS for Sinti and Roma families. Höllenreiner endured hunger, forced labour and daily terror. He later recalled being made to carry jars containing the organs of murdered children for SS physician Josef Mengele, while members of his family were subjected to medical abuse. He was transferred out of Auschwitz before the murder of the remaining prisoners in the Sinti and Roma family camp in August 1944. He subsequently endured imprisonment in Ravensbrück and Sachsenhausen before escaping from a death march near the end of the war. Exhausted and severely traumatised, he was taken to France by liberated French prisoners and eventually placed with a foster family in Paris. His separation from his family continued long after the war ended: only in December 1946 was he reunited in Munich with his parents and sister, who had also survived. In later life, Höllenreiner shared his experiences through talks, interviews and commemorative events, bearing witness to Nazi persecution and speaking out against the continuing discrimination faced by Sinti and Roma. His life inspired Anja Tuckermann’s documentary novel "Mano: The Boy Who Didn’t Know Where He Was." In 2013, he received Germany’s Federal Cross of Merit for his work as a witness and educator. Returned to my #fiction #WIP this week after a long gap. Was struggling to get going on Monday, but have now had a rather fantastic idea that will take the thing in an exciting new direction. Words fizzing out of me now. Keep at it, #WritingCommunity. Believe! 👊
