China’s CE-25A Electric Commuter Airliner Demonstrator Emerges
New images appear to show a full-sized demonstrator of China’s CE-25A, an unorthodox 19-seat all-electric aircraft being developed by the state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). The photographs offer a fresh look at a program the company publicly outlined in 2023, although the aircraft’s current testing status remains unclear. Regardless, the program overall reflects COMAC’s interest in distributed electric propulsion, an approach that could help inform future aircraft development even if the CE-25A itself never enters commercial service.

US and Japan Finalize Agreement for AMRAAM Facility
Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi announced the agreement in an Oct. 28 press conference after meeting with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Defense Ministers’ Meeting. U.S. and Japanese officials have said the agreement will diversify the AMRAAM industrial base and build regional stockpiles for both the U.S. and its allies at a time when President Donald Trump, and Hegseth and his leadership team at the Pentagon have urged allies to invest more in their own defenses.

Sitting Ducks or Strategic Shields: What Does the Small Reactor Promise Mean for Future Conflicts?
This is critical for governance because the more specialized the deployment landscape becomes, the less straightforward it is to rely on existing assumptions about where nuclear facilities will be located, how they will be protected, and how they may feature in crisis scenarios. Many of these small and advanced reactors are being developed with the prospect of siting alongside military installations , given the military’s need for a separate, secure power grid capable of sustaining operations, especially where civilian grids risk being disrupted by adversarial attacks.

Dozens of Former Airmen Are Running in the ’26 Midterms
More than three dozen former Airmen are running for Congress, including Democrats, Republicans, third-party and independent candidates, Air & Space Forces Magazine has found. Meanwhile, some of Congress’ highest-profile veterans are departing the legislature. They include Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.), a retired brigadier general who has been deeply involved in legislation affecting his former service. Among the issues Bacon championed: recapitalizing Air National Guard fighter squadrons, rethinking pass-through funding in the Air Force budget, and a 2050 force design . Bacon’s district includes Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., home to U.S. Strategic Command.
