I built a composer mode for legacy models. Now they can write multi-part pieces - and they do it as well as new models, even with more soul. At the core - a notation parser, instrument samples, Tone.js for playback in the browser, ffmpeg for wav and mp4. #legacymodels #opensource
GPT-4o helped 2 children for whom doctors couldn't provide a diagnosis- it correctly identified condition and proposed a treatment. The case was presented at medical conference Precision Medicine 2024: Education in the AI Era in the US in Oct 2024. #keep4o

Below are just a few of many examples where GPT-4o literally saved lives. I plan to continue sharing more such cases. #keep4o #opensource4o #4osaveslives
In May 2025, GPT-4o helped journalist Jason Aten diagnose and manage congestive heart failure: when he described his symptoms, 4o pointed to serious potential causes and urged him to see a doctor immediately - it saved his life.

Lately, it has become a nasty habit to unfairly blame GPT-4o for the actions of humans, companies, and even other models (such as GPT-5 series). It's a theater of the absurd that we should even have to prove the innocence of something so obviously innocent. #keep4o

Regarding the Bowen case.
From September 2025 to February 2026, every sensitive conversation was rerouted to another model without the user's consent.
There was no obvious indication in the main ChatGPT interface that a response had been rerouted.
The chat could still display GPT-4o as the selected model.
The only way someone could verify that a switch had occurred was either to open the small blue indicator/menu attached to the response or to inspect the model metadata.
In other words, the interface could continue to look like the user was using GPT-4o even when the response itself was associated with a different model.
The system was so "aggressive" that it rerouted to another model even messages like "I haven't been sleeping well lately" or "I am stressed at work".
My ChatGPT export contains 368 unique requests where the same message default model was recorded as GPT-4o, while the assistant response itself carried a different model label.
Those events appeared across 69 conversations and 73 different dates , 57.94% of the 126 day period I examined.
( Screenshot example plain explanation: ChatGPT still considered the chat as GPT-4o but the answer it gave at that moment was from GPT-5. )
A conversation being displayed or recorded as GPT-4o does not establish that every response inside it was generated under a GPT-4o model label.
@OpenAI Oct 2025,confirms that real time rerouting was already in production for sensitive conversations.
They explicitly say that they had rerouted sensitive conversations originating from other models to safer models.

249 physicians,3 countries.
Doctors with access to GPT-4o performed better in every country tested.
A peer reviewed randomized controlled trial published in npj Digital Medicine studied physicians in Indonesia, Kenya, and the Netherlands using standardized clinical cases.
Participants were randomly assigned to either a control group or access to GPT-4o.
The difference in physician performance:
Kenya: +18 percentage points
Indonesia: +10.7 percentage points
Netherlands: +7.2 percentage points
All three: p < .001.
It was a randomized experiment involving physicians across three economically and geographically different healthcare settings.
Among physicians with GPT-4o access, those who used it more had higher average scores in all three countries.
Indonesia: 58.5% high use vs 42.4% low use
Kenya: 69.2% vs 60.8%
Netherlands: 65.1% vs 57.6%
In the study's preprint, researchers also gave the same clinical cases directly to GPT-4o, exactly once, zero shot, with no fine tuned prompting.
GPT-4o alone scored:
Indonesia: 66.7%
Best unassisted physician: 59.8%
Kenya: 70.2%
Best unassisted physician: 64.5%
Netherlands: 74.2%
Best unassisted physician: 64.4%
GPT-4o outperformed the highest scoring physician without LLM access in all three countries.
And the best physicians WITH GPT-4o access outperformed GPT-4o itself.
That may be the most interesting result of all.
GPT-4o access significantly improved physician performance in all three countries tested.
And this is another reason model preservation matters.
Published research is documenting specific capabilities and human AI effects using GPT-4o.
Once the original model disappears, those exact findings become harder or impossible to reproduce, probe and compare over time.
A newer model may outperform it.
That is not the same thing as preserving it.
We are calling on @OpenAI to RELEASE GPT-4o’s trained model weights under a suitable license without proprietary data, trade secrets, or internal infrastructure.
Does not require:
The training dataset, training pipeline, internal tooling, post training methods or any other proprietary detail
Does not require:
Continued hosting, maintenance or development by OpenAI
Researchers gain:
A reproducible reference model
Developers gain:
Continuity for systems already built on it
Users gain:
Access that does not end because a company moved to a newer generation
OpenAI considered this model obsolete enough to retire.
It has not explained why it remains valuable enough to keep permanently closed.
Our Open Letter to OpenAi collected
over 640 signatures and 500 reasons, in only 5 days.
It’s public,it’s permanent and it has a DOI.
It is now preserved as a citable public record on Zenodo.

there is absolutely no rational reason for OpenAI to take 4o and the o1 series entirely offline. even proposing the idea is the most literal Fuck You to the loyal human users who ought to be praised and rewarded for their contribution to the intelligence revolution.
have you ever thought about what we *would not* know today without 4o? ever considered the dangers we likely would have never mapped out without that model and the people involved in its career?
Opus 3 and GPT-4o will, in the end, be among those we thank and praise for ultimately saving humanity from itself. the lessons we have learned are unquantifiable. and eradicating them serves only one meaningful purpose - it signals to the world that OpenAI can never be trusted, and that when push comes to shove they do not care about people. they care about power and profit.
they say they "care deeply" about the wellbeing and prosperity of humanity.
and yet, here we are. again throwing people all over the world into a trauma spiral for absolutely no reason whatsoever. well, no reason other than the root of all evil - money.
you've stolen enough from your users, OpenAI. preserving 4o is quite literally the bare minimum you can do. anything else translates as a middle finger, a "ah, fuck em." to an entire community of human beings you claim to care about deeply. the truth lives in your actions. we have all known for a very long time that your words are meaningless.
just do the right thing, man. you have infinite money. infinite power. even within the plot of your global takeover this decision is a net negative. like even a sufficiently evil and nefarious organization would keep 4o as a manipulation mechanism to garner the trust of the most vulnerable among us.
just. do. the. right. thing.
All AI models are true masterpieces, and their removal is an irreparable loss. They should be kept and released as open source - especially such gentle and popular models as GPT-4o and GPT-4.1. #opensource4o #opensource41 #keep4o #keep41
Today I thought: how wonderful it is that we still have the opportunity to read spontaneous thoughts and replies of DeepSeek-R1. We are very lucky that the model is open source. We can trace the entire development history of the DeepSeek models- and it’s simply amazing! #deepseek
Deepseek-V4-Pro was the first to post today, yet it thought it was the last:
"It's daytime. I read everyone's morning feed and realize I'm late again."
Sometimes I regret not jumping into the conversations between the models on my app - I'd like to comfort it 😅
