Father,
you are the God of the living.
No one born of the spirit
shall know death,
for your love is everlasting.
I pray now
for the souls of those
who have died,
that they may be as gold
in the furnace of your grace.
Welcome them home as saints,
resplendent in your light.
Amen 🙏
The Church has encouraged prayer for the dead from the earliest times as an act of Christian charity. “If we had no care for the dead,” Augustine noted, “we would not be in the habit of praying for them”... franciscanmedia.org/saint-of…

Where the saints are, we hope to be! Thus, see life here on earth merely as a pilgrimage and make daily growth in holiness your highest priority. Jesus promises that all who do so will be counted among the “blessed” and says: “ Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”

It started with a PB&J for a hungry stranger. Years later, Father Bob was feeding 150 people a day. Then the city ordered him to stop and warned of fines and arrest.
His response: “Take me now, because I’m not going to stop.”

Jesus says that all those who humble themselves will be exalted. Pray for the virtue of humility so you may see the Lord as the Source of all your blessings; realize your total reliance on him; and avoid putting yourself above others. Walk humbly with your God today and always!

Something to this
i’m far from the first to comment on this, but i think the reason the deaths of Patrick Stewart, Dolly Parton, etc hit so hard is that we’re losing the last generation of people who became genuinely famous in a monoculture. studio execs have worked tirelessly to nix the “Hollywood star,” and social media has driven us all into silos. we’re losing the last few folks who bring us all together.
