I replied to this but wanted to highlight the errors in this doubling down. Systematic sampling is not random sampling and Small has specifically written about the problems with applying quant logics to qual sampling (How Many Cases Do I Need?). 1/

Given the responses, I need to add two posts. Although I'm not a qualitative researcher, the concerns I'm raising are discussed regularly by qualitative methodologists. I'll put one source here and one in the next post.

It's exciting to see my work featured by @CBELifescied, but I'll admit it was even more exciting to hear my work was cited in a presentation today at #SABER2024! I am so lucky to be part of such a vibrant and supportive research community!

National calls have emphasized importance of integrating scientific practices into science courses, but an analysis of exams from 111 undergraduate biology courses found scientific practices were largely absent from course assessments. @unlsbs

Notable—unlike other schools, Wesleyan Uni says it will not clear an encampment so long as it remains non-violent:
"This morning you can find pro-Palestinian protestors camped out…as long as we all reject violence, we have opportunities to listen and to learn from one another."
Dr. A. Kelly Lane retweeted
I cannot currently attend the protests to divest at UMN due to other responsibilities. But I fully support our students and my colleagues who are expressing their demands. True justice involves community ownership over public services so we should be listening to our students 1/4

Student evaluations are a great way to learn that you're the best teacher they ever had despite being the worst teacher in existence, and that you under, over, and appropriately prepare for each class.

Had a great discussion with folks via my #SABER2023 talk! What a blast, and I love all the continuing @SABERcommunity dialogue we're having about reflexivity, genetics, and race. 🥰 Stay in touch with project updates, assessment tools, and resources here! forms.gle/Ttr8fk19ja3QZNDY9

ALT Joel Schneider, dressed in a pink shirt and light blue jacket, standing next to a projector screen during their SABER 2023 presentation. The slide discusses "Implications for Classrooms to Inform Your Design" and explains various points like getting specific and concrete with talking about race, addressing race head-on to prevent emotional distancing, and reflecting on your own learning contexts and what you and students bring into the classroom. Audience members are visible in the image foreground.

Joel Schneider is giving an excellent talk right now at #SABER2023. Encourages all to consider reflexivity in research for results (love!). Points out context can impact how racial ideas are expressed. Extremely interesting results!

Should you share your #qualitative research with participants?
Here's my take, and why I recommend calling this practice "member reflections" rather than "member checks."
Many researchers believe that participant correspondence with findings is a sign of rigor, HOWEVER...
