You can't make most permanent magnets without heavy rare earths and the outlook is bleak for the world outside of China. We are developing solutions and partnered with significant sources, when needed. 🇺🇸

On the heels of AML’s CTO Philippe Masson presentation at @AdamasIntel Rare Earth Mines, Magnets & Motors 2026 conference, AML’s President and CEO @wsenti was pleased to be interviewed and quoted in this week’s POLITICO story on efforts to create a rare earth magnet supply chain in the U.S. for defense.
AML was also excited to be mentioned on today’s @politico Energy podcast, in which @HMNorthey walked listeners through her reporting and conversations with Wade. You can access the episode below at your preferred podcast source.

We're converging on the future of magnets today. Building technology and supply chains to scale. 🇺🇸 🧲
AML’s CTO Philippe Masson presented a preview of our progress with our technology and manufacturing development and ramp up at the @AdamasIntel Rare Earth Mines, Magnets & Motors 2026 conference.
We had many great meetings with existing strategic suppliers and prospective customers. We have some bigger plans afoot and more news to come. There’s about to be another sintered NdFeB magnet player in the mix.. 🔮🧵🇺🇸🧲
We will be in attendance and presenting at the @AdamasIntel Rare Earth Mines, Magnets & Motors 2026 Executive summit. A presentation will be given by our CTO Philippe Masson on Wednesday September 30, 2026 to provide a brief update on our company, technology, and plans going forward. Feel free to find a member of our team to learn more about what we're up to! 🇺🇸 🧲
THIS WEEK: AML is proud to be part of an industry coalition supporting a new U.S. Dept. of @ENERGY (DOE) project led by @cwru (Case Western Reserve University) to develop domestic production of heavy rare-earth metals.
To bring rare earth magnet manufacturing back to the U.S., we must lead on research and workforce development. A collaboration between the Department's Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation and Akolkar EMF Laboratory and Professor Rohan Akolkar's team of engineers is the exact kind of scientific collaboration necessary to out-innovate our adversaries and onshore critical capabilities.
AML continues to work with partners and customers on reimagining and reinvigorating permanent magnet manufacturing for the world. More to come.. 🧲 ⚡ 🫡

Scaling production is more than a few pieces of equipment and a larger facility. It's about truly understanding what you're making and quantifying value to and with customers as you grow.
Making sintered SH grade magnets with several year old alloy flake is pretty cool (had to hustle to find some stockpiles from allies). We're just beginning to optimize to move from ~ N45SH to N48SH...! 🧲
The status of magnet making in the United States is yet to be determined. Most are building factories mapped out of what they know from China. Factories of the future need to be built differently - different requires innovation. China will run folks into bankruptcy and take everything in the process.
Aside from grain boundary diffusion (GBD), there's little innovation with sintered NdFeB magnet making in the United States. We build our own equipment for nearly 50% of our production cycle. Most magnet companies rely heavily on outside vendors for their capabilities, we do not. We are proud to partner with great strategic vendors though.
Our neighbor down the street needs millions of tiny magnets annually for their drone motors.... it's been radio silence from the rest of the industry. We've had other magnet companies coming to us to help finish their magnets. Big problems and opportunities on the Space Coast! 🧲
🧵America's rare earth debate has been fixated on mines and separation plants. AML just told Congress: you're still missing the real problem. 🇺🇸
Advanced Magnet Lab (Florida) has submitted formal comments on the Magnets Value Chain Support Act of 2026 — and while they support the legislation's goals, CEO Wade Senti is waving a red flag Congress needs to hear. 🚨
The core issue 👇
A sintered NdFeB magnet block is NOT a finished component. Before it enters a drone, a missile, or an EV motor, it must be:
🔧 Machined to spec
🛡️ Coated for corrosion protection
⚡ Magnetized
🔬 Inspected and qualified
🏗️ Each of those steps requires specialized equipment, skilled labor, and decades of production know-how that the US has largely handed to China over 30 years. ⚙️
📃Here's where the legislation has a structural flaw 👇
The Magnets Value Chain Support Act as drafted rewards production on a flat per-kilogram credit. Sounds fair. It isn't. ❌
📍1 kg of large industrial magnet blocks = minimal finishing required
📍1 kg of miniature defense magnets for drones/guided munitions = potentially hundreds of individual precision parts requiring machining, coatings, magnetization, inspection, and DoD qualification
Same credit. Vastly different strategic value. 🎯
As AML puts it directly in their Congressional submission:
"This is not a plea for preferential treatment. It is an argument that industrial policy should reward value added, not simply weight produced." 📄
AML's three asks to Congress:
◆ Reward component-level value creation, not just mass output
◆ Incentivize near-net-shape manufacturing to conserve scarce dysprosium and terbium — the heavy rare earths most at risk from China's export controls
◆ Recognize small precision defense magnets as a distinct and separately incentivized strategic manufacturing capability 🛡️
The bottom line is brutal and correct:
If Congress gets this wrong, the US could successfully fund magnet blocks — and still depend on foreign manufacturers for the finished components that actually go into F-35s, guided missiles, and autonomous systems. That's not reshoring. That's rebuilding the easiest and least strategic part of the chain. 🔗
REEx called it: "America's greatest bottleneck lies in downstream manufacturing — the engineering-intensive processes that convert blocks into precision components."

AML is proud to be playing our part in manufacturing NdFeB magnets for the U.S. defense industrial base, ensuring our warfighters have the technology they need to succeed.
As the story in @IntEngineering details: "Design of many current and future defense systems are based around motors and generators whose reduced size and weight and increased efficiency and performance can only be achieved using NdFeB magnets.”
