Praying for more cool weather
Reef health update for Friday 18 March 2022: Sea surface temperatures remain above average. Future weather patterns will be critical in determining the severity of coral bleaching across the Marine Park. bit.ly/3DyBgG2. #ReefAuthority continuing to monitor the situation

Great to put this story together with @NITV @KeiraJenkins2, sharing the important work of the #yirrganydjirangers monitoring their Sea Country reefs off Cairns during last week's coral #spawning! #greatreefcensus #kulbul #collaboration @gbrbiology @RRF_GBR @GBRFoundation
Back home and online after a crazy week in the far north of the GBR carrying out some #GreatReefCensus snorkel surveys and #seagrass camera tows. We had amazing conditions, glass outs and crazy drop offs galore. Thanks @citizensGBR for a great week. – at Cairns, Queensland

When the sharks get a bit too interested in your survey... The sharks in this area of the northern GBR seemed active so we were being very aware, staying close to the boat, and we did stop surveying shortly after this. I could only see about 3 sharks in the water! 📽️Ross Miller

Heading out on another @citizensGBR #GreatReefCensus expedition tomorrow, and I might have given the Census toughbook a little bit of a makeover... Just so it's ready to help us find more deep water seagrass. Sorry not sorry @ANDYRIDLEY. #teamseagrass
We're halfway through the 2021 #GreatReefCensus! With the support of divers, tourism crew, researchers, skippers, freedivers & citizen scientists from across the reef, we've captured 13,641 images, submitted 582 surveys from 101 reefs — visit greatreefcensus.org to take part!

Thanks to Rum Runner & the #citizenscience team on board, who departed today for a 4 day #greatreefcensus mission! They will survey priority reefs SE of Cairns, not visited by tourists #greatbarrierreef
The world's biggest reef survey has reached the halfway mark, and locals are being encouraged to get involved. Organisers of the Great Reef Census hope to reach their target of photographing two hundred reefs in the coming weeks. 7NEWS.com.au @frankrusso85 #7NEWS
We welcome the government's commitment to #netzero by 2050, but now we need a clear plan for how to achieve it. As our CEO @ANDYRIDLEY says below, this means reducing emissions by 50% by 2030, as well as scaling up conservation in a massive way #cop26 #climatechange
Great Barrier Reef conservationists have welcomed a policy to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, but say the work has to start now. Meanwhile, Warren Enstch has revealed he won't attend the UN climate conference in Glasgow next week. 7NEWS.com.au @freya_jensen #7NEWS

Australia's pledge is a start. I've now urged @ScottMorrisonMP to show us a concrete plan to halve emissions by 2030. I've given him a copy of Fiji's Climate Change Act as a guide –– it is our uniquely Fijian way of following the science to keep faith with future generations.

I feel the same - all the effort and still here we are
I've found today pretty hard. Have to be honest about that. There has been so much nonsense, so much time wasted – and reporting that looks at climate change through the prism of whether particular strategy wins elections is a big part of the problem.
Australia’s climate plan - More dodging decisions , more misleading the public - and you can forget the critically important global effort for ambitious and critically important emissions reductions by 2030. Surely this should not be the ‘Australian Way’
