Most of you know this story, but none of you have heard it from me. Back in September 2018, Femi Hamzat wanted to be Governor of Lagos State. He had thirteen years of public service under Asiwaju and BRF, with the record and backing to win. Then party leaders asked him to step aside for me. It takes a rare man to put down what he wants without nursing a grudge. Femi shook my hand and five weeks later, agreed to run beside me. I have never forgotten that. Anyone can read a CV but only the person in the room with a man when the cameras leave can tell you who he really is. For 2,711 days, I have been in that room with him. When COVID-19 hit, when we faced our hardest weeks, when the Blue and Red Lines ran and when the Lekki Deep Sea Port opened, Femi was there. Long before any ribbon was cut, he was asking the tough questions an engineer asks. In many states, deputies are kept in reserve. On day one, Femi promised to be the best deputy governor in Lagos history. He kept his word. In seven years, there has not been a single day I wondered whose side he was on. We have had one government, one direction, and one voice. Lagos runs on a relay system. The baton is never passed to a runner standing still. You run at full speed inside the exchange zone, together, before the pass. That is how Lagos has been governed for 27 years, from Asiwaju to BRF, to Ambode, to me. Femi is a deputy governor like no other. He built the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge under Fashola, digitized government under Asiwaju and holds a doctorate in engineering. His father served Lateef Jakande. This is in his blood. Critics say Lagos keeps choosing from the same pool. I say Lagos trains its people. With major projects underway and a master plan stretching to 2052, this is not the time to experiment. What Femi presents today is not a campaign promise cooked up on a bus, it is the next leg of a race we have been running since 1999. Lagos does not hand the baton to a man standing still. Today, you have seen the man who is already running. Let us move forward together with The Lagos PROMISE.

LAGOS LAUNCHES PRIVATE HEALTH PLAN, FLAGS OFF MANDATORY INSURANCE ENFORCEMENT … 21 HMOs Endorse Partnership As Sanwo-Olu Gives Residents, Employers Till December 31 To Comply Lagos State Government on Tuesday launched the Lagos Private Health Plan (LPHP) Partnership and flagged off the enforcement of mandatory health insurance, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announcing a grace period until December 31, 2026, for employers, workers and residents to secure appropriate coverage before enforcement commences on January 1, 2027. The launch, held at Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, also featured the unveiling of 21 participating Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs), marking a major step in the state's drive to expand health insurance coverage and protect residents from the financial burden of healthcare. Sanwo-Olu said the initiative, anchored on Executive Order EO/BOS/01/2024 signed on July 16, 2024, was designed to ensure that access to healthcare would no longer depend solely on an individual's ability to pay at the point of illness. Reaffirming the state's commitment to the implementation of the State Health Insurance Scheme, Ilera Eko, the Governor said the scheme would create a more inclusive healthcare financing system for formal-sector employees, informal-sector workers and vulnerable residents. Explaining the rationale for the new plan, the Governor said the existing Ilera Eko scheme was designed primarily to support vulnerable populations and people working in the informal sector, necessitating a complementary arrangement for salaried workers and corporate organisations. He disclosed that actuarial analysis of approximately two million claims and enrolment records informed the development of the LPHP, which offers structured health insurance options for the formal sector. The Governor said the state had established implementation and enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance, including a Lagos Private Health Plan Implementation Steering Committee and an Enforcement Task Force. He directed the relevant authorities to provide operational guidelines and support for enrolment before the end of the grace period, stressing that the objective was compliance rather than confrontation. “We want compliance, not unnecessary confrontation,” Sanwo-Olu said, urging employers and workers to use the transition period to select suitable plans and complete registration. He added that the initiative would strengthen healthcare financing by making payments to participating providers more predictable, improving service delivery and reducing pressure on public hospitals. The Governor also said part of the contributions would support the Lagos State Health Equity Fund and public healthcare infrastructure, helping extend coverage to residents unable to afford insurance. He assured stakeholders that the state would monitor HMOs' performance, particularly prompt payment to providers, claims settlement and access to appropriate care. @jidesanwoolu @drobafemihamzat @LSMOH @ProfAkinAbayomi @ZambaDr @LagHealthScheme @gbenga_omo @gboyegaakosile @BarrBimbola @Mr_JAGs @Riddwane #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG

On Friday, 30th of October, I will present my manifesto for Lagos, outlining my vision and priorities for the years ahead. My focus is to sustain our progress, address areas that need more attention and create opportunities for every Lagosian to thrive. The future of Lagos must put people first and our plans must reflect their hopes, concerns and everyday realities. From completing and connecting our rail lines, improving road and water transportation and expanding access to affordable housing, to strengthening security and upgrading healthcare across our 57 LGAs and LCDAs, we must keep making life better. Every community deserves safe roads, reliable public services and opportunities to prosper. Education, skills development and job creation will remain central to our vision. We must equip young people with the knowledge, technology and practical skills to succeed, support entrepreneurs and small businesses and ensure that talent translates into opportunity, regardless of background, gender, religion or place of origin. We must also protect our environment through better waste management, flood prevention, improved drainage and the protection of our coastal communities. We will continue to promote responsible governance, support traders and businesses and manage public resources to deliver real value. Progress is not just about how far we have come but how many lives we improve along the way. Building on the foundation laid by successive administrations, we must protect what works, improve what needs attention and embrace ideas that meet Lagos’ changing needs. My commitment is to a Lagos that is safer, more accessible, prosperous and inclusive. A Lagos where opportunity reaches every community and every resident has a stake in our shared future. Together, we will build on our progress and move Lagos forward with purpose, accountability and the people at the centre of every decision. That is my PROMISE.

Today, I flagged off the enforcement of Executive Order EO/BOS/01 of 2024 and unveiled the Lagos Private Health Plans (LPHP), which will extend health insurance coverage to salaried workers and corporate organisations, complementing our existing Ilera Eko scheme for vulnerable residents and those in the informal sector. Healthcare costs are rising rapidly and relying on cash payments when an emergency strikes simply does not work. We are changing that system today so that quality care is accessible to all without putting your life savings at risk. We are giving every resident until December 31, 2026, to get covered, with formal enforcement beginning on January 1, 2027. While our Ilera Eko scheme continues to protect vulnerable citizens and workers in the informal sector, we have introduced the Lagos Private Health Plans to serve corporate organizations and salaried employees. Twenty-one HMOs have already joined us as partners to expand this coverage across the private sector. To ensure no one is left behind, we tripled our Health Equity Fund from ₦1 billion to ₦3 billion. This allows us to pay premiums directly for over 500,000 residents who cannot afford insurance on their own. We are also setting a firm boundary for all healthcare providers, no hospital in Lagos is permitted to turn away anyone needing emergency care due to financial constraints. Patients must be stabilized first before any payment or insurance details are discussed. To our business owners and employers, employee healthcare is not an optional extra, it is a mandatory responsibility just like pensions. To our doctors and medical professionals, strengthening our healthcare financing builds the solid foundation we need to keep your talents right here at home. We are protecting families from the burden of unexpected medical bills, helping more people seek care when they need it and building a healthcare system that works for everyone. No one should have to choose between getting medical care and protecting their household finances. This is how we build a healthier Lagos where quality healthcare is accessible, affordable and within everyone’s reach.

LAWMA COMMENCES STABILISATION, EXTENSION WORKS AT OLUSOSUN DUMPSITE The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced stabilisation and extension works on the tipping platforms E1 and E2 at the Olusosun Dumpsite. This was disclosed at Ijora-Olopa on Monday by the Authority's Executive Director, Finance, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, who said that the project was being executed through Zoomlion Nigeria Limited to increase the platforms' capacity to accommodate more waste trucks simultaneously and thereby improve operational efficiency and safety. According to him, work is progressing on site as scheduled, and its completion alongside major improvement works in other dumping facilities, including Solus III and Epe, will strengthen waste evacuation infrastructure and improve service delivery across Lagos State by significantly reducing truck turnaround time. LAWMA solicits the cooperation of all Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators, waste truck drivers and other stakeholders during the execution of the project to ensure smooth operations and the timely completion of the ongoing rehabilitation works. The Authority remains committed to improving waste-management infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiency and sustaining a cleaner and healthier Lagos. @jidesanwoolu @drobafemihamzat @Lawma_gov @gbenga_omo @gboyegaakosile @BarrBimbola @Mr_JAGs @Riddwane #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG

Lagos 2027 Incoming Governor @drobafemihamzat 👏 👏
Today, I received my Deputy, @drobafemihamzat , as he formally shared his intention to run for Governor of Lagos State. We have worked closely for over 21 years and I know his strength, his capabilities and his steady commitment to the people of Lagos. Femi’s understanding of governance and the socio-economic development of the State as nurtured by our leader, HE President Bola Tinubu, makes him, undoubtedly the best man for the job. Lagos is too important to be left for experimenting. I, therefore have no doubt that with his values, he will continue to work tirelessly to make our state greater.
