The propagation model also matters because it defines how the signal is expected to behave across terrain, obstacles and different deployment conditions. ALT What happens when propagation starts shaping the infrastructure model itself? KDDI, NTT DOCOMO, SoftBank and Rakuten Mobile are studying ways to share 5G mmWave infrastructure in the 28 GHz band, including base stations and repeaters. The reason goes beyond cooperation between operators. At 28 GHz, propagation conditions make wider coverage more demanding and often require greater network densification. That technical constraint can influence decisions far beyond RF: how much infrastructure is needed, where it is deployed and which assets may make sense to share.
