Making advanced chips requires more than advanced lithography.
It takes metrology, inspection and computational lithography working together – from R&D to high-volume manufacturing – to keep chipmaking economical.
That’s holistic lithography. Watch the animation for more. 👇
On October 14, we reported €11.7 billion in total net sales and €5.0 billion in net income for Q3 2026. For the full year, we now expect total net sales to be between €44 billion and €45 billion, with a gross margin around 56%.
ASML is featured in The @NewYorker's deep dive into what it takes to make the world's most advanced chips. Behind them are years of shared engineering, expertise and trust across the ecosystem. No one does it alone.

CEO Christophe Fouquet: “Our customers continue to increase their short- and medium-term equipment demand forecasts with us, driven primarily by their views on the size and duration of AI-related investments.”
In process development, chipmakers need to find the most robust set of patterning parameters – and fast. Metrology and inspection reveal how test patterns print so chipmakers can refine their process and move into volume manufacturing sooner.
How can AI help unlock what we already know? By connecting models to that knowledge, we can learn faster, accelerate customer solutions and help our support teams keep systems running 24/7.
Chips are like tiny skyscrapers that can have more than 100 layers. The lowest, most critical layers form the transistors, while upper layers route power and signals. For chipmakers, choosing the right lithography for each layer is key to balancing precision and cost.
AI can help engineers explore more possibilities in less time. By accelerating complex development work, it gives our teams more room to test, learn and iterate so we can turn ideas into customer solutions faster.
We’re investing in Matter Venture Partners’ new fund to help foster breakthroughs in semiconductors, AI infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, robotics, energy and quantum technologies.

AI shouldn’t be a race to do the same with less. At ASML, our partnership with @MistralAI is about creating more value for customers by amplifying what our people and technology can do.
Before chip patterns are printed in volume production, they’re perfected in R&D. That’s when holistic lithography helps chipmakers model, measure and fine-tune the process so printed patterns match the intended design as closely as possible.
Through our strategic partnership with Mistral AI, we’re improving how we develop, optimize and support our technology. These innovations in engineering and operations will help customers push chipmaking forward – and do it more efficiently.
Learning how to precisely print microchip patterns starts in R&D. By integrating computational lithography, optical metrology and e-beam inspection with lithography systems, holistic lithography helps chipmakers fine-tune their patterns before volume production begins.
