🚀 Naija HackAtom: Igniting Web3 Innovation in Nigeria! In early 2025, Nigeria witnessed a transformative chapter in its Web3 journey with the launch of Naija HackAtom. Spearheaded by @CosmoshubAfrica and bolstered by the @ATOMAccelerator DAO (AADAO), this initiative aimed to embed the @cosmoshub and the Atom Economic Zone (AEZ) into the heart of Nigeria's burgeoning tech ecosystem. A Nationwide Movement Kicking off on January 1st, Naija HackAtom was more than just a hackathon, it was a movement. The series of events spanned major Nigerian cities: - Lagos: The inaugural workshop attracted over 150 participants, featuring sessions on Interchain technologies, smart contracts, and blockchain regulations. Notable speakers included @thepopeblack, @OkohEbina, and @SenatorIhenyen. - Kano: Hosted at Bayero University, this event emphasized the practical applications of Cosmos technologies, drawing a diverse crowd of developers and enthusiasts. - Abuja: I had the privilege of attending the Abuja workshop, where nearly 100 attendees engaged in hands-on sessions. Highlights included a deep dive into CosmWasm by Chinedu, DevRel for Cosmos Hub Africa, and a workshop on building AI agents by SeanRad from Secret Network. - Enugu: The final workshop welcomed 60 participants, focusing on smart contract development and hackathon preparation. Additional workshops in Kaduna and Akwa Ibom ensured nationwide participation, reflecting the inclusive vision of the initiative. Hackathon Highlights The culmination of these efforts was a virtual hackathon that attracted: - 160 hackers - 57 project submissions - 18 finalists The competition was fierce, with innovative solutions addressing real-world challenges: - Beep: A USSD-based custodial wallet enabling offline access to Cosmos chains, facilitating fiat on-ramping and off-ramping. - Padi: A crowdfunding platform built on Neutron, allowing users to launch funding campaigns seamlessly. - ATwork: A decentralized freelancing platform powered by ATOM, aiming to revolutionize the gig economy. Other notable projects included - Tradi-App, a private AI trading analytics platform, and - Secret AI Writer, focusing on secure content generation. A Vision Realized The success of Naija HackAtom is a testament to the collaborative efforts of @CosmoshubAfrica, @ATOMAccelerator, and the vibrant Nigerian developer community. As @thepopeblack, a key contributor, aptly stated: > "I needed something to work on, a structure we could bank on, and I came across the Atom Accelerator DAO. I don’t think we would ever come up with the Cosmos Hub Africa community if they haven’t supported us. They saw the vision, the mission, and the purpose of having a Cosmos Hub Africa community. AADAO made that possible." Nigeria: The Web3 Frontier Nigeria's dynamic tech landscape, characterized by its youthful population and innovative spirit, positions it as a pivotal hub for Web3 development. Initiatives like Naija HackAtom underscore the nation's potential to lead in decentralized technologies. For Web3 projects eyeing expansion, Nigeria offers a fertile ground for growth, innovation, and community engagement.
