The darkness was real. So was what they built.
Churchill fought loneliness and still held the line. Lincoln carried a heavy melancholy and still held a nation together.
Grant spent years on a lonely frontier post, far from the wife he adored, and fell into drinking and despair. He left the Army a failure.
A decade later, he won the war that saved the Union.
Beethoven wrote that only his art kept him going. Then, completely deaf, he gave the world the Ninth Symphony.
Greatness was never the absence of the dark. It's what you make while you're in it.
Embrace beauty, reject doom, my friends ✨
People don't understand how depressed most Great Men actually are.
*Napoleon wrote a paper called "On Suicide" at 16
*Hamilton wrote a letter saying he "wished there was a war" to make his name
*Churchill wrote countless letters about Loneliness
*Lincoln constantly wrote about being depressed
*Caesar weeped by a statue of Alexander the Great
*Newton wrote about being isolated at school
*Musk talks about how "people wouldn't want to be me"
*Beethoven writes that his art stopped him from suicide
This is a recurring pattern you see throughout history. Many greats are depressed in their youth. And often times, this is their driver towards action. They deal with their pain through pure action.
