My dependencies for ALL my sites are quite low. I noticed the less APIs I depend on, the less amount of things break: - Vanilla PHP + jQuery Everything is vanilla PHP and jQuery and vanilla CSS etc - Self-hosted DBs All my databases are SQLite - Stripe Accepting payments - ScrapingBee Screenshots for social media images, and some data scraping for Nomads - Cloudflare Lots of stuff but mostly A LOT of image resizing - FAL .ai My GPU for AI training and inference - Digital Ocean and Linode Servers - OpenAI API All automation for robots runs on OpenAI's API - X API Finds remote jobs for Remote OK and reports of lost luggage for Luggage Losers - Featurebase .app My ideasandbugs(dot)com that I use for ideas, bug reports and support
People are often surprised when they see how few dependencies we use in our applications. Whether it's Campfire or Writebook or catching a glimpse from HEY. Same deal with our two new apps in development. It's all vanilla Rails, because that's all you need. dev.37signals.com/a-vanilla-…

Rejection. Disappointment. These words are almost unavoidable when you're building something meaningful, whether in your career or in business. And as much as we prepare ourselves for success, it’s the lessons learned from setbacks that often shape us the most. One lesson I’ve learned in my journey came from a personal experience in my career. I was on the verge of a promotion that I believed was a done deal. But when the time came, the promotion didn’t come. It was a blow—one of those moments that could leave you feeling bitter, questioning your worth, or disengaging completely. But instead of allowing that disappointment to define me, I made a different choice. I decided to keep showing up, to keep engaging, and to get on with the work that I was passionate about. That experience taught me how to deal with disappointment head-on. The truth is, rejection happens a lot in business. But it’s not the rejection that defines us—it’s what we do after. I didn’t get that promotion, but I gained something far more valuable: the ability to handle setbacks with grace, learn from them, and keep pushing forward. So if you’re in a tough spot right now, remember that rejection is just part of the process. Keep showing up.
