In today’s Eastern Métis/Pretendian news….we have the co-opting of a Mi’kmaw concept (Msɨt No’kmaq) to perpetuate the idea of Metissage or Eastern Métis in the Maritimes.
“Process of creating my metissage”…..this was a new one friends 😲
Funny thing is, it came up as a Google scholar notification. But @UCalgary has either removed the entire publication or put it behind a firewall. Only the synopsis is available.

I'm anticipating a mixed reaction to this one (no pun intended, I promise) - now open access. Thanks @CJPS_RCSP Currents Section for such a rapid and straight forward publishing process.

As we refine #recontact practices in clinical genetics the (in)equity implications of a shared model of responsibility must be considered. The current model is falling short--potentially failing those that could need it most. Our thoughts in @ejhg_journal: rdcu.be/c8gId
1. To me, the motivation of academia to bring pretindians in has a fairly clear root.
Way too many Indig. ‘equity’ hires are rooted in a quota system. How? b/c academic admin almost always have to justify a need (Aka, you haven’t met the quota) for designation to be approved.
Universities colleges & arts have moral & legal oblig to ensure students staff & faculty grants jobs & awards for Indigenous ppl go to Indigenous ppl & same 4 Indig elders advisors consultants & lecturers. Reconciliation demands u deal w fakes & take burden off us. #pretendians
4. Fairly confident that if universities in Mi’kma’ki partnered with Mi’kmaw communities and legit Mi’kmaw scholars on their hires and programs. The pretindians would be weeded out by those L’nu you’ve partnered with.
We know a Pretindian when we see one.
OMG, holy smokes 🤯 might be just as nervous as the boys on the ice 🤣

Maybe something to look into for Nova Scotia?? I am curious how much has been spent by the government infringing on SCC affirmed Mi’kmaw treaty rights. Chief @AndreaPLFN pointed this out the other week, that the government likely spends millions to infringe on our rights.

On the topic of mishandled and lost IRS archives or having them sent to Rome, it brought back this traumatic memory. When my grandfather passed away in 2005 the @beatoninstitute @cbuniversity mishandled and lost my grandfather's archives (see the link).

Quote in CBC article: "Stevens' eyes well up as she recalls the day she found out the tapes were missing. 'It was like losing Wilfred over again,' she said. 'It's hard to think that somebody would take something like that, that is so vital to our culture.'"
