oh ursula you were so real for this
Oh his attractiveness was known. Here’s no less than Ursula LeGuin writing about the show also for TV Guide about two years later

oh it really is excruciating
Being a writer is a very lonely passion bc it's not really something you can show to people. Like if you're a sculptor or a dancer or a painter then you can SHOW people what you do. They just have to sit there and watch. But to appreciate writing you actually have to. Read it.

imo there’s a misunderstanding of catharsis as passive consumption of art simulating desirable outcomes catharsis is often simulating maladjusted, hyperbolic, worse case scenarios to get them out of your system
felt like this re: discussion I saw on hanahaki disease wanted it to be a lesson to be honest about your feelings instead of an evocation of the anguish of unrequited love, a cathartic fantasy of it being an actual incurable disease because it feels like that in the moment

An argument I see around against the depiction of uncomfortable topics on fictions goes like: "Yes I understand the author wanted to show this, but they could have done in a more subtle, less impactful way" It baffles me how I keep seeing that exact idea over and over again

a magical and grotesquely beautiful curse that will kill you if the person you love doesn’t love you back, isn’t supposed to be healthy advice from a therapist. it’s okay for some art to just hyperbolically embrace how it feels to be human

just like how a scary story about how there absolutely IS a monster waiting in the shadows of your room to eat you isn’t healthy life advice, but it’s exaggeratedly expressing what it feels like to be spooked in the dark

the level of reactionary vitriol people are spewing in the comments here supposedly in memory of patrick stewart is so insulting to his memory, immensely more so than suggesting “rest in power” is not appropriate for him. using him as a nazi prop is ghoulish
Rest in power is a phrase used for minority groups murdered in persecution, primarily black people. It is not a phrase for white wealthy cishet men.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
"Rest in power" originated in 1980s-2000s graffiti/activist scenes (including Latino examples) and is used more broadly for public figures and deaths beyond primarily Black victims of persecution, including white non-activists. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rest_in_p… slate.com/culture/2019/0… dictionary.com/culture/politi…

likely thing for the shifting mound to say
unfriend everyone. destroy everything. basically be dead. die.

Restrictions on porn are genuinely such an insidious trojan horse for mass censorship because if you try to speak out against it, people on both sides of the political aisle will just write you off as a pervert.

i'm kinda really tired of people going "war is too expensive on the average american! that's why we don't want it!" and not "war is bad because our taxes go to aiding the genocide of alive human beings with dreams and loved ones just like us!"

Genuinely disturbing news - my friend Clara, who you might know as the Super Creek at Trackside, was abducted by ICE at the Rochester Airport on her way home from Uma week. Please read and share her story: facebook.com/share/18Rmm5SHK…

every time you defend the imprisoning of human beings within state borders I add another fuck you to the tally

and “leftists” will complain when you have ruthless critique of every form of communism that historically presents as the use of state institutions to cruelly and utterly deradicalize populations. sorry but the real revolution will not stop until capitalism is past
Ironically, in Lithuania (and I'm sure many other eastern bloc countries) it's in large part bc of the Soviet Union that there is no existing socialist organizing tradition. In Soviet times, communist organizing meant institutional state politics, led by career politicians.

White people call Mao a “dictator” when America’s first President owned 300 slaves.

I can’t take maoists and stalinists seriously when this is their favorite argument. this is how competing ruling classes talk about each other. you fake communists can get lost, this isn’t your century
