These were so much fun...until they got covered in dirt, dust, hair and whatever else would stick to them.

Debbie Harry leaning on the hood of a white Ford Thunderbird under a street lamp at night, in a cropped white top and loose white trousers. Photo by Chris Stein.
Stein was much more than the man behind the camera. He co-founded Blondie with Debbie, played guitar in the band, co-wrote many of its songs, and was her partner for more than ten years starting in 1973. Even after they split as a couple they stayed close friends and kept working together.
All the while he was taking pictures. He photographed Debbie constantly, along with the artists, musicians and writers around them in downtown New York, from CBGB regulars to Andy Warhol. In 2014 he collected those photos in his book Negative: Me, Blondie, and the Advent of Punk, and this one of Debbie and the Thunderbird is among them.
Few bands had a photographer that close to the action, because he was in the band.
🎸 Debbie and Chris wrote Heart of Glass together. Did you ever see Blondie live? 🎸
