Voters choose their leaders, not the other way around. Certifying elections isn't optional. The guides we have created with @brennancenter @CampaignLegal @protctdemocracy will help election officials understand their legal options when certification is challenged
Certifying elections is the mandatory democratic duty of election officials – they don’t get to override the will of the people by refusing to do so. Our new guides outline the legal options officials have when others refuse to certify. allvotingislocal.org/state-c…

We unequivocally condemn the attack at former President Trump’s rally. There is no place for violence in American politics.

Campaign Legal Center condemns today’s shocking act of violence against former President Trump. Our democracy depends on every American rejecting all forms of political violence. Tragic events like today’s shooting in Pennsylvania should never happen – not now, not ever.

A major new campaign finance decision from the DC Circuit dropped today, ordering the Federal Election Commission to do more to enforce rules requiring super PACs to operate independently of candidates. (This is a big win for the folks at @CampaignLegal). Here’s a quick primer: cadc.uscourts.gov/internet/o…

PACs, super PACs and secret money groups, oh my! What's the difference, and how are they used to hide the true sources of election spending from voters? We turned to CLC's Executive Director @AdavNoti for a quick, watered-down explanation in our latest #CLCExplains video.

1. After Citizens United, there are few restrictions on spending money in federal elections But @tedcruz may have violated one of the last legal guardrails to secure hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of his reelection campaign Follow along if interested 🧵

Nice try. @NoLabelsOrg claims to be a “draft group” that isn’t under the control of a candidate, but a quick look at the Unity08 case shows that this argument holds no water because Unity08 never supported or opposed federal candidates. Here's what @AdavNoti had to say:
Shameful lying @StopBigMoney. Unity08 v. FEC Explained 🇺🇸 The landmark 2010 case, Unity08 v. FEC, paved the way for groups like No Labels, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, to advocate for ballot access without registering as a political party. Why? ⬇️ ✅🇺🇸 Unity08, which sought to get on the ballot in the 2008 election, challenged FEC regulations on political party status. ✅🇺🇸 In 2010, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled that nonprofits — like No Labels — can advocate for ballot access as long as they don’t campaign for a “clearly identified candidate.” ✅🇺🇸 This means nonprofits, like No Labels, can support ballot access and do not have to register as political parties with the Federal Election Commission. 🗳️🇺🇸 This is a win for voters, and it’s a win for democracy. It allows more choice and more opportunities for diversity in an election. Why would anyone try to get in the way? Only if they want to kneecap the competition. 🗳️🇺🇸 But do not worry. No Labels will stand with moral courage for the rights of the 1 million+ Americans who have signed voter registrations to support No Labels on the ballot. 💜 if you believe in the right of Americans to express their voices and assert their right to choices at the ballot box. 🇺🇸 Learn more here: fec.gov/legal-resources/cour…

Wow. DeSantis’s leadership PAC, which is not supposed to be used to support his presidential campaign, gave over $2M to the super PAC exclusively dedicated to supporting his presidential campaign. docquery.fec.gov/pdf/278/202…

Are you sure @NoLabelsOrg ? @AdavNoti, one of the lawyers who argued Unity08 v. FEC, thinks otherwise. The fact is, No Labels got some high-priced DC lawyers to come up with a faulty argument for refusing to register as a political committee with the FEC.
