Yesterday, 1st June 2025, I attended the Nigerian Navy’s 69th Anniversary Ceremonial Sunset and Dinner at the Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos, as the Special Guest of Honour.
As we commemorate 69 years of the Nigerian Navy’s steadfast service to the nation, I pay tribute to the courage, professionalism, and operational resilience of our naval personnel. The Navy’s enduring service in securing Nigeria’s maritime domain, particularly across the Gulf of Guinea and our Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), remains vital to our national security and economic stability.
I specifically commended the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, for his visionary leadership, bold reforms, and efforts to enhance fleet readiness and operational capability.
During the ceremony, I had the privilege of unveiling the official logo of the Nigerian Navy Special Operations Command (NNSOC)—a strategic rapid deployment force, structured to conduct high-risk, land-based missions in support of internal security operations. This is a significant milestone in our evolving security architecture.
Furthermore, I launched the official logo of the Nigerian Navy’s upcoming 70th Anniversary, thereby initiating the countdown to the historic celebration in 2026.
Let me reaffirm that maritime security remains a cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. A secure maritime domain is critical to our national development, regional influence, and global maritime relevance.
I congratulate the Nigerian Navy on this remarkable milestone and urge continued strategic readiness and professionalism in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty.
