You ever get an invitation from a saguaro? Sometimes the tall cactus just urges you to come outside and play. Winter in #Arizona is like that—an invitation. The desert rolls out the welcome mat. How can you resist mild temperatures and sunny skies in January?

Cloud shadows sweep over the Vermilion Cliffs in northern #Arizona. It is a peaceful place and the release site for California condors. The program has been quite successful with a growing population of the massive birds seen at the cliffs and #GrandCanyon.

The last day of summer brings rain to my #Arizona house, like a goodbye kiss. I'll miss the languid days of summer, the monsoon storms, glorious sunsets, and even the heat. I spent the season rambling across this remarkable state. Same goes in the fall but now with a sweatshirt.

I miss clouds. In #Arizona we’re in our dry period, the month before monsoon season. Skies are clear and blue. But we need the bringer of rains. I want big plump clouds creating an enchanting blend of light and shadow. And soon our skies will weep and we'll dance amid the tears.

In #Arizona, we are blessed with open space--parks and forests and preserves--allowing us instant access to nature. Life spills outdoors here and I'm so thankful for places like Dead Horse Ranch State Park, my local sanctuary. @AZStateParks @VerdeFriends

In northern #Arizona near the border of Utah, Monument Valley Tribal Park is fully open again, including the #hiking trails, and the 17-mile loop scenic road. But I still recommend taking a Navajo-led tour to learn more of the culture and history of this remarkable place.

Just a spring day in #Arizona. My Lady Banks rose bush guards our courtyard. Did you know the largest rose bush in the world grows in Tombstone? Also a Lady Banks, it covers 9,000 sq. ft. started with a cutting from Scotland sent to a newlywed bride back in 1885.

I love #hiking in Cattail Cove State Park, hugging the southern edge of Lake Havasu. Desert, water, mountains and beach, all crowded together in one delicious #Arizona package. What a way to spend a day! @AZStateParks @GoLakeHavasu

#Arizona is nothing but desert and only grows tumbleweeds. Residents of AZ have heard it before. Yet this state is incredibly diverse. If you ate a salad this week, it came from Yuma where fertile green fields defy winter in the sunniest place on earth. @YumaChamber

You'll find a great system of #hiking trails in #Prescott, #Arizona. Volunteers have carved out multiple pathways through the Granite Dells, pine forests and around the lakes. The Constellation Trails offers fun scrambling for kids and stunning views for all. @ThisIsPrescott

The beauty in #Arizona stretches not just across the landscape but includes our vast sky as well. Clear and sunny most of the time, when clouds are present it just adds another layer of scenic wonder. Here, the heavens and earth meet.

If we catch some winter rains, the Secret Slickrock Trail in #Sedona is always worthwhile. A short #hike with a big visual payoff. Of course, that describes lots of #Arizona trails. @SedonaChamber @SedonaMonthly

Another signature #Arizona sunset torched the sky above Mingus Mountain this week. The reckless light and wild color pulled me out onto my porch to admire the fleeting masterpiece. In AZ, beauty is a same day delivery.

Today would be a perfect time to hike in Sabino Canyon in #Tucson, #Arizona. The lush stream-fed little defile is carved from the flanks of the Santa Catalina Mts. This is desert with the heart of a forest.
