May the friendship between China and Uganda endure and flourish.
Today, I met H.E. Mr. Losang Jamcan, the Rt. Hon. Deputy Speaker and Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China, who represented him at my swearing-in ceremony. I thanked President Xi Jinping and the people of China for the strong and historic friendship between our two countries. Uganda values China's decision to open its market to our products under the zero-tariff arrangement, which will boost trade and investment opportunities for our people. We also discussed the need for dialogue and peaceful solutions to international conflicts instead of force and confrontation. Uganda and China have continued to enjoy cordial relations for about 70 years now , rooted in mutual respect and cooperation.

Over 30,000 Chinese peacekeepers have been sent to Africa since 1990. More than 2000 peacekeepers are currently in DRC, Mali, South Sudan and Western Sahara. Interestingly, these are not keeping peace like others, they are building peace in Africa.
