It's perpetual child syndrome.
The reason why they're "lonely" is because they're seeking something irrelevant to life that they'll never find - yesteryear.
It will never be the 80s/90s again. Gone are the days of $1 cheeseburgers and Saturday morning cartoons.. even while those things still exist.
They were never satisfied by their childhoods, which is why they continually seek their childhoods in modern day, nothing will ever measure up to nostalgia.
