NFL trade deadline is tough. Not a lot of wiggle room for forward thinking moves. I’d love to trade Payne but would love to trade for Josh Downs. What exactly would that do? You strip it down or trade and force guys into your system. No soft sales in the NFL.

NEW: Brian Kelly says the Maryland, Baylor and NC State openings are all “unique” when asked about the best job:
"We’re talking about ACC, Big 12, and the Big Ten. From a conference standpoint, the Big Ten obviously has proved itself to have that kind of appeal, right? With Maryland, it is a fertile recruiting area. There’s no doubt that that DMV area is a really good recruiting area. I think they’ve done great things in terms of upgrading facilities."

Trade: Colts have agreed to send eight-time Pro-Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, per me and @rapsheet. Nelson is on an expiring contract and the Colts are opting to get back draft capital now before they could lose him in free agency.
But an all-time Colt now moves on to the Seahawks.

Someone is really trying to make this a thing.
He could be a valuable asset in a personnel role but the head coach talk is nonsense.
Reader commentary: With Biff Poggi's history as a hedge fund manager and success in building St. Frances' football program, he could be the right man to help Maryland football in today's money-driven college sports environment. bit.ly/4BqGpz1

Another positive week for Mestemaker. Colorado tried to blitz him quite a bit. He really understands where his answers are vs. blitz. Had some beautiful back shoulder and deep throws. Still want to see him get down and protect himself when running. Takes way too many big shots.

Three cornerback rules from Nick Saban's Cover 7 system.

The guy that wasn’t good in college isn’t good in the NFL.
#Bengals DE Shemar Stewart, last year’s first-round pick, is a healthy inactive today vs. the Baltimore Ravens.
Was Aaron Rodgers old enough to throw touchdowns to Bubba Franks because that’s who Darnell Washington reminds me of..
