Thank you to ITGA for its continued efforts to support the sustainable development of tobacco-growing communities around the world. Ahead of World Tobacco Growers’ Day on October 28, I would also like to extend my best wishes to growers worldwide. This year’s theme — “Our Reality. Our Voice. Our Future.” — is a timely reminder that growers’ perspectives should remain part of the global conversation about the future of tobacco agriculture. #WorldTobaccoGrowersDay #ITGA #TobaccoLeaf

More detailed labels aren't always better. Consumers shouldn't need to be chemists or nutritionists to understand risks. Regulators should enforce safety standards. Will PMI and Swedish Match stand their ground and pursue this dispute all the way? How might the EU respond? Views welcome.

This survey is being conducted by a team of Chinese scientists researching nicotine alternatives. Below is a brief description of the survey. If you use 6-methylnicotine (6-MN) products, I would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete it. Thank you! Survey Description: This questionnaire assesses user experiences with nicotine-based and 6-methylnicotine-based vaping products. It evaluates initial and long-term responses to use, withdrawal symptoms following cessation, and current craving intensity. The survey is anonymous, and participation is entirely voluntary. Please answer all questions as honestly as possible based on your own experience. Thank you for your contribution.

At #NACSShow2026, JTI Liggett (JT Group, $2914.T) showcased LD and Montego. LD's U.S. sales volume rose 32.6% YoY in H1 2026, per JT Group. Booth staff told 2Firsts the company had not yet launched nicotine pouches in the U.S. 2firsts.com/news/jti-liggett…

Having attended these meetings in person, I came away with a clear sense that CTP is serious about improving the PMTA process and confident it can work better. The next challenge is making sure that signal reaches the entire market — from suppliers and manufacturers to brands, distributors, retailers and consumers. There is still a lot of work ahead.
2Firsts Special Report: From New York to Washington, FDA’s CTP is reworking how tobacco products are reviewed. Our on-the-ground report examines PMTA reform, category-specific review, sPMTA, review predictability — and CTP’s staffing and backlog constraints. #FDA #PMTA #CTP 2firsts.com/news/special-rep…

@FDATobacco CTP disclosed a significant amount of new detail at #FDLI2026 — from PMTA backlog figures and the 180-day review goal to sPMTA, alternate suppliers and 50,300+ pending SE reports. 2Firsts reports from Washington on what CTP’s Office of Science said. #FDA #CTP #PMTA #2Firsts 2firsts.com/news/on-site-rep…

This was Koplow’s fourth keynote in roughly four weeks. Compared with his September 25 speech in New York, he used the full half hour at FDLI to go much deeper into the operational details, review strategy and staffing constraints behind CTP’s approach to PMTA reform.

@FDATobacco Director Bret Koplow outlined new details on PMTA reform at #FDLI in Washington: • Only 9 PMTA scientific review teams today • Koplow wants to more than double that number • CTP is using AI tools to support some reviews • PMTA backlog down about 70% • More category-specific review planned 2Firsts compares the remarks with his Sept. 25 NAS speech. #FDA #PMTA #TobaccoRegulation 2firsts.com/news/on-site-rep…

I’ve long believed that capital should play a deeper role in the global tobacco and nicotine transition. The opportunity is not only commercial. Capital markets also bring stronger mechanisms for disclosure, governance and accountability — tools that can help push emerging nicotine categories toward greater compliance, transparency and responsible development. Many of the challenges facing this industry, from information transparency to misconduct and corporate governance, are areas where investors and public markets have a much broader toolkit to drive change. My thanks again to the New Approaches Summit for creating a platform where different perspectives could come together, and to Huub Savelkouls, Bradley Tusk, Andrei Andon-Ionita and Pieter Vorster for their presentations and insights. 2Firsts welcomes more perspectives and dialogue from the investment community. Feel free to reach out.
Capital is looking at tobacco differently. As heated tobacco, vaping and nicotine pouches scale, investors are asking new questions about profitability, regulation, valuation and shareholder engagement. 2Firsts reports from the 2026 New Approaches Summit in New York. $PM $BTI $MO $NICO #Nicotine #CapitalMarkets 2firsts.com/news/special-rep…

Thanks to Chris Rapanick of #NACS for speaking with 2Firsts. I hope this interview helps bring more grounded facts and useful insights to the U.S. tobacco and nicotine market, especially from the retail perspective.

Cliff Douglas has spent more than three decades working across tobacco control, litigation and public health policy, and has also witnessed the rise of new nicotine products and the regulatory challenges that followed. His perspective deserves attention.
At #NAS2026, Cliff Douglas argued that the “continuum of risk” should play a central role in tobacco policy. He called for more predictable regulatory pathways and said potential FDA PMTA reforms could be a “welcome correction” if they improve access for scientifically substantiated lower-risk products. #FDA #PMTA #THR #Nicotine #2Firsts 2firsts.com/news/nas-2026--c…

First time hearing an FDA official speak in person. Forums like #NAS2026 matter because they allow industry, researchers and media to better understand how regulators are thinking and where they may be heading. I believe regulators and industry can share important long-term interests. Deeper communication and mutual understanding can help turn them into more effective action.

Former FDA CTP Director Mitch Zeller says the tobacco harm reduction debate should move from “end game” to defining the desired “end state.” He also discussed dual use, nicotine misperceptions and better ways to measure risk reduction. 2Firsts reporting from #NAS2026 in New York. #FDA #Nicotine #TobaccoHarmReduction 2firsts.com/news/mitch-zelle…

Hello, New York.

Thanks to Sophia Wilsby for speaking with 2Firsts. Kelly White offers an interesting example of how nicotine pouch brands can approach consumer needs, segmentation and brand building — while thinking about how to improve adoption of potential harm-reduction alternatives within regulatory boundaries.
Nicotine pouch competition is intensifying. As products and formats converge, more attention is shifting to brand positioning and marketing. 2Firsts spoke with Kelly White founder Sophia Wilsby about female consumers, design, regulation and independent-brand competition. #NicotinePouches #BrandStrategy #2Firsts 2firsts.com/news/kelly-white…
