It seems timely to share this crib sheet about Celeborn, which I put together in 2024 just before Rings of Power season 2 It's going to be very interesting to see how trop will introduce him, since they've kept well away from most of Tolkien's versions of his life!
I've been in some chat with folk who only know Celeborn from the movies (where he's practically a non-entity). So I've written a primer for anyone who needs some background. I'm afraid it will raise as many questions as it answers 🤷🏽‍♀️

Barahir and his men were hunted like wild beasts; and they retreated to the barren highland above the forest, and wandered among the tarns and rocky moors of that region, furthest from the spies and spells of Morgoth. Their bed was the heather and their roof the cloudy sky.

Going unerringly to the very heart of Tolkien
Hobbit films might not be right up there with LotR trilogy, but when Peter Jackson cooks, he cooks.

Charlie Vickers' wonky head 🤣 Still - having someone bring out a blowtorch to fix a prop that's *on your head* ? That's literally metal ! (They took it off his head first)

Earlier today, we detected evidence of a security incident on #AO3. We are still in the early stages of investigating. No AO3 data has been deleted. All your works, bookmarks, kudos, etc., are safe. Learn more at otwstatus.org/incidents/g12j…
We estimate that service restoration for #AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/

*neighs* I would like to welcome (Mae Govannen!) any newcomers to the trop fandom, particularly those who are brought in by Celeborn for Season 3 of The Rings of Power. We hope you will have a lot of fun discussing season 3 with us, which will be the best season yet for sure!

This Celebrimbor revealed, because neither the Seven nor the Nine did he value as he valued the Three; the Seven and the Nine were made with Sauron's aid, whereas the Three were made by Celebrimbor alone, with a different power and purpose.

There’s a reason the great dystopian novels envision a world without literacy. Those books warned about the very age we’re now living in. Those who abandon reading & writing are surrendering their powers of thinking. What’s shocking is that so many would surrender so readily.
We're about to enter a period where not reading or writing becomes as ubiquitous as smoking once was. We can hope people will eventually realize this is bad for them, as they did with smoking. But this is far from certain; the cost may not be as obvious.

The clearest take on the value of Jane Austen's writing that I've ever read! But don't take my word for it (or Boze's). Read her for yourself. She's eminently readable, clever, emotive, and very very funny
It’s easy to take Jane Austen for granted because we live in the world that she created. We struggle to see how groundbreaking and innovative her novels are because they set the template for all modern fiction. Pride & Prejudice, to cite the most obvious example, did more than invent a genre. Anyone who now writes a story in which two people fall in love is either inspired by her or reacting against her. She’s like Tolkien in that sense. But she did much more than that. She perfected a method of narration known as “free indirect discourse” that’s now used by virtually every writer. You have only to read the novels of pre-Austen writers to see what a tremendous difference she made through her use of this technique. Literary scholar John Mullan argues that Emma launched a revolution in form & technique that’s comparable to the innovations of Joyce and Proust. It is the favorite novel of Susanna Clarke and of Katherine Rundell, who calls it “a book that shows as much of the sweep of the human heart, of fear, love, morality, untruth, foolery and triumph as a Shakespearean drama.” It is also, arguably, the novel that invented the mystery genre, having what J. K. Rowling has called the biggest twist in literature. You don’t notice the greatness of Austen for the same reason a fish doesn’t know that it lives in water.

Always wonderful to know that my music can help an actor, especially an incredibly talented and dedicated one, get into character on set!

Heru Adar Never to be forgotten
"You have been told many lies. Some run so deep, even the rocks and roots now believe them. To untangle it all… would all but require the creation of a new world. But that is something only the gods can do." "This day we march together, to bring order. to this broken world."
