"More than 4,000 people have died of drug overdoses in San Francisco since 2020, mostly from fentanyl, far more than those who died of Covid-19, homicides and car crashes combined during the same time span." @nytimes

Delighted to have an essay on one of the great philosophers and essayists of the twentieth century, Leszek Kołakowski, in the excellent @PorticoQtrly. On modernity, Marxism, and the merits of inconsistency. Link in the next tweet.

The various pressures, economic and otherwise, to fast-track seminary students for ordained ministry right when the church is clamoring for catechesis is a potential disaster.

I've been concerned about the way online personalities are shifting expectations about politics and the pulpit. I wrote some reflections for @BetweenTimesX

Dear @CRCNA,
Commemorate the Ascension this week; first, because it is, as Calvin put it, "the chiefest portion of our faith;" second, because it keeps you attached to the historic and global church; third, to avoid violating our own church order.
Warmly,
Eric
