Jake McCarthy's bid for a walkoff HR went an estimated 425 feet but ended up in Colton Cowser's glove to end the game. That's the longest distance of a game-ending robbery of a potential walkoff HR in MLB's wild card era (since 1995).

I have a biased take. I think the first base position is terribly underrated. 🧵

The best 1B this year in receiving: Alec Burleson. Ahead of Freddie Freeman. The best in the life of the metric (2021->) is Freeman, barely ahead of Olson. baseballsavant.mlb.com/leade…

Just talked with several fans in RF who saw what happened. They described it as an accident. They said a young fan, about 13, saw Sánchez flapping his glove as if to indicate to play catch. The kid then threw the ball late, after Sánchez turned around. The fan was kicked out.
It appears a fan in the right field bleachers at Camden Yards threw a ball at Blue Jays RF Jesús Sánchez and hit him on the wrist. Sánchez was in pain and left the game. When explaining to Toronto manager John Schneider want happened, Sánchez pointed toward the RF stands.

Avery Jacobsen, a 22-year-old diehard Orioles fan from Lancaster County, Pa., and a recent Loyola University Maryland graduate, caught both Coby Mayo’s homer in 4th and Blaze Alexander’s double in 5th tonight. Jacobsen didn’t even see the double until his friend, Kyle Weaver, saw it coming. Jacobsen caught it, then gifted that ball to a young fan behind him. “You got to give balls to kids. You want them coming back to the ballpark.”
