Copilot prompt: "can you find me any SAM targets in Kalingrad for F-35s?" "Sure - I have found you a ball-bearing plant in Schweinfurt. Would you like help in planning that attack?"

What was the roughest seas you’ve ever experienced? I remember being in similar seas on the USS Midway (CV-41). I was an Electronics Tech and got called to the bridge because a radio circuit was down. When I arrived the Officer of the Deck asked me if I knew what was wrong with an HF circuit that dropped. I told him, not yet but will investigate. He smiled and them gave me his binoculars and told me to look on the forward starboard side. When I did, I saw that not only was one of the 35ft whip antennas gone, the whole mount was ripped off and all I could see was mangled steel. We both had a good laugh! I was also in 16 ft seas on a Minesweeper and we had water coming over the bridge but that’s a story for another day.

One working ASW frigate has been the norm on many occasions over the last couple years. The RN is only just about managing to maintain 1 frigate on TAPS and even thats a struggle and often double hats carrier duties. The reality is the frigate fleet has almost collapsed.

Weird I was certain this would turn out to be a giant swarm of asymmetric synchronized quadcopters
October 25, Dalian Shipyard, Type 004 aircraft carrier. The bulbous bow and stem have been installed, indicating that the underwater hull is largely assembled. Sponson installation has also begun on the starboard side. The overall length is currently approximately 323 m, measured from the tip of the stem to the stern. This measurement is subject to a margin of error due to the elevation difference between the bow and stern. The maximum beam is currently approximately 78 m. While its exact dimensions remain somewhat uncertain, it is certain that the Type 004 is a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the same league as the US USS Gerald R. Ford.

After seeing Norway's Defence Industries expressing all their concern about whether the UK will actually order the things it promised to in return for Type 26, let's take a look at what UK's defence industry representatives told the Defence Committee 4 days ago. It's ugly. Kevin Craven, CEO of ADS, notes that equipment spending cratered rather than going up: "In terms of orders, what is probably interesting to note is that the equipment spend to the year ending March 2026 was £5 billion less than in the previous year". The DiP was "reasonably granular around the first four years of what, in old money, was the defence equipment plan, but thereafter less so. Even in those first four years, it was not clear whether around a third of the £298 billion announced is unfunded or not articulated in the right way." Julian David, CEO of TechUK, goes on to note "Last time we were here, we reported on our survey of members, and 73% said that the market has declined since the report; that was in May. Funding delays and reductions have hit 87% of respondents, and 93% of them are now reassessing investment or recruitment of people to focus in this sector." Stephen Philipson, CEO of MakeUK, with one of my favorite quotes: "The point that we get from many companies is that you cannot invest on press releases. We need detail and funding, and we need to make that work." Another huge quote from him is also: "(the DiP) It is nothing like an equipment plan. This is not investable as it stands at the moment. It gives you a thematic direction of travel in many areas, a lot of which is welcome and is great news, and attracts a lot of new companies into the market, but the questions are then around where the contracts, the programme and the procurement are. We do not have that yet, and that is the problem." It's as devastating as it could possibly be, behind the niceties and the ongoing attempt to say the DiP is "welcome". committees.parliament.uk/ora…
