From CNN Chief Mark Thompson: Christine Amanpour stepping down Dear all,   I’m writing today with news about a CNN icon – and our dear friend and colleague – Christiane Amanpour.   After more than 43 years at CNN, Christiane has decided that the time is right to begin a new chapter. Early in 2027, she will scale back her CNN International show, Amanpour, to once a week. The program will conclude in May, and she will leave CNN at the end of June.   Christiane has thought carefully about this decision, and she and I have been discussing it for some months. Like so many CNNers who will hear the news today, I’m very sorry to see her go, but I’ve come to accept that this is the right time for her, both personally and professionally.   Christiane has been a household name around the world for decades. Yet she began more than 40 years ago not as one of the biggest stars in CNN’s history, but as a news desk assistant in our Atlanta newsroom. Famously, one of her bosses told her back then that she didn’t have what it took to become a foreign correspondent – or to hold any on-air role at all. Boy, did she prove him wrong!   It would be impossible to list all of her reporting triumphs, exclusive interviews, awards and broadcasting firsts, or the many other accomplishments that have made her one of the most trusted and beloved journalists anywhere. We will make sure to share and celebrate them all before she departs next year.   In the meantime, on behalf of the entire CNN leadership team, I want to thank Christiane for 43 extraordinary years of remarkable journalism, loyalty and friendship.   Mark

I’m told Trump was embarrassed by the coverage of Zacharia’s briefing and when he polled other aides about her, Zacharia had few allies willing to stand up for her or defend her performance. The main reason he rushed to select her after growing irritated with how long the process was taking to replace Karoline Leavitt was because he wanted more people defending him on TV. When she failed to do so in a sufficient way with Sean Hannity, Trump said he knew she needed to go.

Given how horribly the horses have been treated — every decent person should celebrate this.
The horse carriage industry is coming to an end in New York City. Our administration will make sure workers and owners are protected and the horses are safe.

The final viewership numbers for this past Sunday’s episode of 60 Minutes were actually a bit lower than the fast numbers: 6.061 million average total viewers. That makes it the lowest rated fourth episode of a 60 Minutes season this century
After a big week last week, this past Sunday's episode of 60 Minutes is tracking to be the lowest-rated of the season thus far. Early Nielsen data puts the average viewership at just 6.07 million, a number that will be revised up a bit but still not ideal for another big episode.

Say this for Ellison: Over the last year he has hosted two widely attended press confernces. I believe that's 100% more than his peers combined.
Skydance CEO David Ellison says company will be spending more on content than Disney and Netflix. I actually was asking about how they plan to go about combining news operations at CNN and CBS but good to know.
