In @UCBTagaLab Zoila, @ZHallberg, and I dove into studying the impact of nutrients like Vitamin B12 (corrinoids) on community-wide & isolate-specific scales. How often do you see paired studies like these?! Our sibling papers are out now in @ISMEJournal! academic.oup.com/ismej/artic…
My first, first author paper is out in @ISMEJournal ! Over the past few years in the @UCBTagaLab we have been learning about how soil bacteria share corrinoids, largely thanks to funding from @DOEScience. Here, we got some answers by studying isolates.🧵

Today we’re making history in NYC - we have a chance to elect leaders who stand with workers.
When we were on strike, @ZohranKMamdani and @bradlander stood with us. Rank Mamdani #1 and Lander #2.
Vote union strong. ✊

1/ Excited to share our new study in @CellCellPress :"Conserved genetic basis for microbial colonization of the gut" We present a tree-of-life-scale genotype-habitat association that reveals conserved gene modules in gut microbes—and identifies novel colonization factors.
Computational discovery and experimental validation of mammalian gut colonization factors. Work led by our own amazing @menghan_liu in collaboration with @SohailTavazoie lab at @RockefellerUniv. @Columbia_Bio @ColumbiaSysBio @ColumbiaBiochem

Researchers @zoilaialvarez, @ZHallberg, @AlexaMNicolas, and others in the @UCBTagaLab have developed a new model that allows them to dissect how one nutrient impacts microbial communities across scales by influencing intermicrobial interactions. plantandmicrobiology.berkele…

it's preprint day! happy to share my first piece of postdoc work as well as my first in the marine space, this time, exploring the biology of bacteria and archaea fixing carbon with rubisco in the deep water column
Abundant and metabolically flexible lineages within the SAR324 and gammaproteobacteria dominate the potential for rubisco-mediated ... biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor… #biorxiv_micrbio

Fresh off the virtual press – new work from @Tagalab with @Zhallberg! A little behind the scenes on the findings and makings of this project:
Vitamin B12 variants structure soil microbial communities despite soil's vast reservoir of B12. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor… #biorxiv_micrbio
And these ideas extended to others! Coauthor @zoilaialvarez developed a project using corrinoids to tackle the great plate count anomaly & successfully cultured + characterized 100s of soil microbes from the same field site in N CA biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
